if your truck has the gold antifreeze to begin with you dont need the SCA if you change the coolant every two years. you only need the SCA if you have the regular green antifreeze. you can get the test strips at international dealer,
What is it? Where do you get it? If I have the green now can I change to the gold? What is the NAME of it?
It is called Motorcraft Premium Gold, from your Ford dealer, or Zerex G-05 is also approved for ford diesels. It comes in new Ford diesels since about 2003. The rumor is that there are no problems with changing over trucks that came with the green coolant back to 1998.5 model year (the superduty body style), however, Ford does not sanction switching from green to gold, so it could cause warranty issues if you are still covered.
That being said, some people have switched their 7.3's that came with green to gold, myself included (I use Zerex G-05 brand from Autozone). It is extremely important that you throughly flush your system of all green coolant before changing to gold (I flushed my system 5 times with tap water and 3 times with de-ionized water), and I also added a coolant filter. If you are interested in making the switch, search this 7.3 forum, there are several threads about it.
