The check engine light came on and I took it to my Snap-On friend who diagnosed it to be the O2 sensor on bank #1.
How tough is this to replace? I'm not really up for the financial ream job my local dealer might nail me for, but can I be reasonably sure that the local garage can handle this?
Any idea how much $$ I should plan on spending for O2 sensor replacement?
I'm a real rookie on the repair end of things and I'm thankful that the truck has been running pretty darn well for the past 4 years.
Thanks in advance!
Jim
p.s. - the truck hasn't given me any symptoms of power loss and it only knocks a little on uphill grades.
I paid $60 at a auto parts store for one on a 97 Ranger 4.0L. It was on the other side which is lower end of the "Y" pipe and a bit easier to get to. Yours is higher up on that side.
It was either 15/16" or 7/8" hex. Mine broke loose after cutting the wires off so I could use the box end. It wouldn't come right out and I had to work it back/forth. A friend at work just broke one of his right off! This a guy told me that he sprays WD-40, heats them with a torch, lets them cool and reheats. Not sure if he followed his own rules this time
