Two weeks in to owning my 04 F150, some sort of sensor that controls the transmisson went out and consequently shut down my transmission. I had to have it towed back to the dealer. It had about 500 miles on it at the time. They fixed it. Now, about two months later, I took it in for oil change and also told them about a humming noise coming from around the transmission. A day later they told me it was the torque converter in the transmission going bad and they would fix it. 10 days later, I get the vehicle back, the gas gauge under empty and the vehicle very dirty. The truck also had 230 miles on it more than when I left it with them. It had about a quarter of a tank when I dropped it off for the oil change. Anyway, the shop foreman stated he did a lot of driving in it. He said that he had to drive it alot to diagnose the problem. The report they gave me indicated they disassembled the tranmission and found coverter material in pan and planetary clearrence out of spec. replaced both and overhauld transmission and vlavebody .flushed lines and reinstalled trans. My concern is they told me that Ford put out an advisory on this problem with the transmission. I only have 2,500 miles on the truck right now. and have had two problems with the transmission already not to mention, now I have a rebuilt transmission in it and I have only made 3 payments on it. Any thoughts on this from anyone. Anybody with similar problems.? (Click Here to find out why email addresses are removed from posts.)

i have a 2004 f150 lariat... had it 3 weeks and I have to bring it back into service tomorrow. I noticed a little puiddle under the truck, and come to find out that the truck is leaking transmission fluid!
Dont know what the dealer will do, but I will keep you posted!
My 04FX4 Screw is in the dealers as I write this for a new tranny pump. Truck has 19K on it and tranny began to "whine" at about 18K. Dealer claimed this is a first; is there actually an advisory on the transmission?
It's unfortunate that they rebuilt your trans and didn't replace it. I had a slight hum in my 2004 Lariat SCrew for about 2 weeks before I got a "Transmission Malfunction" warning. About 5 miles later, I lost my trans (wouldn't shift into gear or would shift out of gear while driving). At just under 5000 miles, Ford replaced my trans and was very apologetic. I haven't had any problems since, but man I'm disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I still love my truck. I sincerely hope all your troubles are over.
I took my 6 week old F150 in to the shop on Wednesday for a whine in the transmission. With only 4,000 miles, I am surprised and disappointed that I'm having a problem. Service told me that I would have it back on Monday and it looks like a pump and torque converter will be replaced. Is there a TSB about this problem? Anyone else having similar problems and if so, did the dealer replace the transmission or repair it? Thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear about your problem too..I still have the whine in mine at different speeds. I can really hear it when I take it out of overdrive. They told me they rebuilt the tranmission including all the torque converter stuff. It shifts fine, but I can still hear the noise. Its not bad really, just anoying mostly. The dealership had my truck for about eight days or so and apparently did a lot of testing on it. I know they put quite a few miles on it. Its really strange, after all that..still the whine....

I picked up my F150 from the dealership today. They replaced the pump and torque converter. The whine is gone. The only thing I now notice is a small shutter as the trans shifts from 1st to 2nd. I'll drive it a few days and see if the shutter goes away. If not, I'll take it back in. I did ask the dealer to update the PCM. I have had several stalls as I am coming to a stop. FTE treads suggest a PCM update will take care of this. The dealer thinks that the old torque converter was not unlocking and stalling out the engine. Fifteen minutes after I pick-up my F150, the truck stalls as I am stopping at the light. Any idea where to find the Truck build date and the PCM version date?
I have an 04 f150 SCrew 4x4 it shifts hard in stop and go type driving.
20K on it. Anyone heard of or had the same thing? I had a 01 (untill someone parked a sidekick in the back seat at 80K running a red light) and it wa a great truck shifted great worked hard.
