I just repaired a vaccuum leak on a 99 PSD f250 SD 4x4 at the hub and need to know if the electric vacuum pump is supposed to run continually or turn off after the reservior is full? The pump never turns off. Probably another leak???
Also, does anyone have a vacuum diagram for this truck?
I would also be interested in the diagram. Went hunting last week, put the nose a little too far over the edge, turned the switch, front wheels wouldn't spin. Got out, rotated the hubs from "auto" to "lock", pulled right out.
well in responce to the first question, the pump should not be always running. when you turn the truck to batery you should here the pump running, it should stop after a minute or so. As to the second question the diagram is pretty simple for the vacuum system. from the reservoir there is a t fitting, one line goes to the hubs and the other to the hvac ducting system.the line that goies to the hubs has another t in it so it can go to both sides. the lines are easy to follow and find. If your vents inside the trucks still work in all the positions the vacuum problem is definately in the hub system. if you cannont find a obvious damage to the lines you could have a leaking hub seal. not to hard to change. just remembered that before the lines go to the hub they go thru a shutoff valve. the valve is most likely working but it is a chance. any more questions just ask.
Rusty, thanks for the info. It looked pretty simple to me too but I still had to ask. I applied vacuum to the line entering the cab and all positions work normal. I'm pretty sure one of the hubs ($$$$) is leaking. I'll post the results when the owner (neighbor) returns the truck.
not that much money. if the hub is leaking about 6$ if the big hub seal is leaking anout 70$ and three hours.assuming the hub is good/which it shoud be. chnaged it all many times.
So, if the front hub seals are bad on my Excursion PSD, then the AC/Heat will also blow out the defroster only and not from the floor/panel like it should?
