Just bought some oil and fuel filters from one of the vendors often cited on this forum. Everything looks good except for this one:
As you can see, some of the adhesive in the plastic end cap was applied a little thick and gooped out. This is the first fuel filter I've purchased for this truck so I don't know how typical this is. It makes me wonder how evenly the rest of the adhesive is spread in the end caps. Maybe I should return it for exchange/refund.
The "motorcraft" filters my dealer has been using are exactly like the ones photographed--exact same patent number and all, but I would return it--no reason using a messed up filter in so important a system.
This one actually said "patent applied for" or some such on the bottom. The top number in the picture is the WIX part number (WIX 33599). Not sure about the bottom number (1534). Production run, maybe? Dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if the Motorcraft and WIX were made by the same manufacturer, though.
Called the vendor and they're sending a replacement out today.
My Motorcraft FL-2016 has printed on the bottom of the filter:
"Manufactured and/or Used Under
U.S.Patent No. 6,086,763
Other Patent Pending
Made in Germany"
i changed my fuel filter today with a wix filter set...it has the same goop drip too. the OEM ford filter i took out had it too, but not as much....i just got a razor and flattened it out a bit. all good.

Interesting. The same patent number, the "Other Patent Pending," and the "Made in Germany" labels are also on the bottom of the Wix oil filters I bought. There is a second patent number on them as well: 6,554,139.

I considered doing the same, but then the vendor offered to send me a replacement. Maybe I'll ask the Flatratetech guys if it's typical for these filters to have glue slopped on them like that.
