I recently tuned up my 98 xlt 2.5L. I replaced the plugs and wires. I replaced them w/ Autolite wires and plugs. I also replaced the air filter w/ a K&N. I also put on a flow master delta muffler. The air box I drilled out with 1" trade size holes below were a stock filter sits. It's got a nice low rumble to it but NO dramatic difference in acceleration. On the towing aspect, there is a dramatic diference in low end. It used to stall out or break the bake tires loose pulling a 17' boat out of the water. I have notice NO difference in gas milage at all. I get 22 mpg towing the boat or going back and forth to work!! Go figure? I guess there is nothing you can do do to the little four popper but maintain it and hope you can save money to slap in a 5.0 and screw w/ the punk drivin the Honda!!!! Any one out there w/ cheap hp info LET ME KNOW!!! Thanx CB for the gaping!!! They offered 2.5's in the 98's?
