I had a friend a couple of friends that had a cavalier with that motor and then they bought the 2.4. Both of them said the 2.2 is a far better motor than the 2.4 as reliability. I had a 87 cavalier with a 2.0 in it. I bought it with 56,000 on it and I sold it to a friend with 101,000. He still drives it and now it has 300,000 on it. It was the uglest car I ever owned but that car was really reliable. I only had to put a fuel pump and a altenater in it when I owned it.

my ex wife drives a 99 with the 2.2. It has 102,000 miles now. she has had it since about 35,000 miles,no major problems,just regular maintainence type stuff.I am not a chevy man,so I am thinking she got the only good one they made

They have had many years to work bugs out on these cars. I have a friend that rarely has problems, and has well over 100k. He takes good care of it and it takes good care of him and his wallet.
