It's a "97" motor? The "Infamous" 97 motor??? Sorry, it's worth nothing unless you take the motor out and replace the upper and lower gaskets first. It's pretty much junk I think.
Tranny should be worth something, but not much. couple hundred at best i'd imagine.
Rick, we are all aware of the massive problem that the 97/98 motor had. It's discussed her almost on a daily basis. Check out this link. With the mileage you have on your motor, this is why I say it's not worth anything. That motor can Hydro-lock any day now.
drop that biotch into a honda civic, with a blower. Everytime i rev it 2 wheels will hop off the ground, and my coffee will spill. Forget motor mounts, i'll weld it in.
Dude, it's probably not worth anything really, unless it was manufactured AFTER january 15 of 1998. That's 2 days after my little cousin turned 16. Time sure does fly.

I've got one problem with this statement. After reading through the leakingfors.com website, he has the TSB that says towards the bottom that 4.2's built before 5/1/97 are the ones affected. I don't know why he states on the homepage the 1/15/98 date
I don't think anyone here had that problem. We just know all about it. My truck is an 03 so I have no worries. There are, however, hundreds of threads about the 97/98 motors on this site and people talk about the costs associated with fixing the problem and or replacing the motor. run a search for threads that either contain "leaking fords" Or "Gasket failure" or "Hydro Lock", I'm sure you'll come accross dozens. Or just start paging down and you'll see tons of threads entitled "Another Hydrolock" or "another gasket failure" or something like that. Or you can simply start another thread asking how much it costs to fix the leaking gasket problem. I however have no idea.
Yeah, what Tom said. I remember recently I read a poast from someone who scored a rebuilt one from Ford, for about 3500. His motor had hydrolocked and Ford offered him a replacement, rebuilt to avoid gasket failure.
Ah Rick, you see now i'm offended. you thought I was either pulling your leg at first or that I was just a complete moron. ok, so i CAN act pretty moronic at times I'll give ya' that much. But most of the time I pretty much know what i'm talking about. If i don't know something, than I usually admit it and ask questions so I can learn more. You can see how many posts i've got. I've learned so much stuff about our trucks from the guys on this site and from posting here. Had it not been for the 4X4 section of this site, i probably never would have lnstalled the lift kit on my truck myself, or even have gotten one for that matter. We goof off alot around here but there are alot of pretty intelligent dudes on this site.
So, as I thought, none of the "advisers" have bought or repaired a 4.2 ! That is why I would prefer someone with actual experience respond. As with any engine, alot has to do with its treatment and maintenance. It is interesting to note that someone got a rebuilt 4.2 for $3500. So at least I have a ball park, I can pull my perfectly fine 4.2 and put new gaskets in it and possibly get 1/2 the price the truck is worth, Now if I could get a round- about idea from someone who has read a bunch of posts about the automatic, I would have an idea about its value!
Read what they actually say in the auction, and you'll learn quite a bit. Take note, too that these are pretty cheap. the guy getting his motor from ford for 3500 was, well, getting it from ford. Of course it'd be a lot of money.
I didn't see any transmissions, but i found BETTER transmissions, like for the 4.6 or 5.4, remanufactured to new condition, for under $1000. The mazda tranny your truck has, which is used, shouldn't be worth very much.
