Okey-dokey.
I changed the fuel filter yesterday and the air filter.
I can notice a huge difference in power after changing the fuel filter.
Hopefully this is the problem. My ride into work was uneventful and the check engine light stayed off.
Hopefully the ride home will be just as boring...
Thanks for the info, Russ.
I'll give it a look. Unfortunately, in the meantime, my check engine light continues to come on.
While looking at the possibility of a vacuum leak, I ran across this hose that seems to be flattened.
Is this normal? Could this be the reason for my lean mixture codes?
Any idea what I call that hose when I ask for it?
Duct tape is taking care of it at the moment but I'd like to replace it asap since it's lost it's shape.
I have a 99 Ranger 3.0 v6 4x4, and am having the same problem with the same check engine light codes, I have changed my mass air flow sensor, new air filter,
New fuel filter, checked vaccum lines, at least what ones i can see and get to,
put a new egr pressure sensor & hoses on it, New spark plugs & wires, And also put 2 new O2 sensors on it, But yesterday I noticed that i actually have 3 O2 sensor's, I missed one. I took it to the local shop and for some reason they decided to clean out my convertors, It ran decent for about 50 miles, but was still idling rough, Now it is alot louder and the problem is getting worse it seems.
Also my truck has a problem with bogging out in basically every gear, but not consistantly, and has a top speed of about 75, anytime I try to get it up faster then that 5th gear bogs out and I have to down shift to get it back up to 75.
I took it to the muffler shop, and they say now i need new convertors, Funny thing is that when they checked the check enging codes at the shop, they said they were for O2 sensors, and when I go to AutoZone they say they are for system lean bank #1 and bank #2, Can the 1 O2 sensor I missed be the source of all these problems? If not what should I do next?

I wouldn't bother changing the 3rd oxygen sensor, it's not causing your lean codes. And why does the shop say you need new cats? Sounds fishy to me.
Have you tried changing the fuel filter? Ever run some fuel injector cleaner through the system? As I (and others) stated above, lean codes are the result of two things:
1) Too much unaccounted-for air getting into the cylinders (usually caused by a vacuum leak resulting from bad hoses and/or connections, manifold gaskets, etc.);
2) Not enough fuel getting into the cylinders (usually caused by restrictions in the fuel system or failing fuel system components).
I Dropped it off at the dealership, yesterday after work, they called me back and also said that it needed new cats, I hope that it fixes the problem. And yes I changed the fuel filter. My truck is making alot of noise, coming from the cats, I also put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in it, to no avail. When the Ford Dealer called me they said that the cats were causing all of my problems, along with my check engine light, I am in doubts with that and totally agree with what you are saying, but either way the cats are under warranty , so no cost to me, I just hope they actually no what they are doing at the dealer. If not I guess I will be back on here asking you more questions..
