Hey everybody. Well, my wife has done it again. She changed her mind about going to Whistler, so she wants options as to where to go for our anniversary. So I said Hawaii, Disneyland (again) and Vegas.
As it turns out, all flights out of YVR are fully booked to Hawaii, so that's out. We were just down in LA last year for our honeymoon, so as much as I wouldn't mind going to Disneyland again, it might be a bit boring. And I now know what kind of weather Anaheim gets at that time of year. I haven't been to Vegas yet, but my wife was there in January on business.
So, my question is for Las Vegas residents, or anyone who regularly visits Sin City around the second week of December. What is the weather like? Is it cold? Hot? And what should we pack, if we decide to go? Any establishments or shows you recommend we see or stay away from? Anything else I might be missing?
Splurge and stay at one of the NEWER hotels. The older ones, although they may be famous, just don't compare. Go for fewer days rather than longer at a cheaper hotel.
I went in November for an event at the speedway (Ducati weekend). Every day at the track the temperature was 100+ (and water was $4 USD but that's another story). In town in the evening it was very pleasant, maybe 70's, but the hotel pools close early at that time of year because the locals think it's too cold.
I agree with Dennis, the walking about and the free shows were some of the best parts. And the food (and drinks) are really good and there's lots of choice. It's a great place for an anniversary -- if you go, I'm sure you will enjoy it.
OK well I have lived there for a couple years and right now as I am writing this it is 9:40 in vegas and it is about 55. To me that is cold but i dont think that it would be 100+ in november. Yes it is vegas of all places and it is a desert, but you have to remeber deserts get both heat and cold. Last winter we did get 4 inches of snow. Now for the enjoyment part of it you have alot of great shows to go to if you can afford it. I would suggest Cirque De Soile "O" but that will probably be sold out, you can look at some of the big name shows that they have. You will see them on the backs of cabs and what not. Also there isnt very many people at this time of year.
But really, you never know until the time comes. Tonight in Kelowna, BC it is 48 degrees, last year on this same weekend it was 20 below. I'm sure the same thing happens in Vegas. The weekend we were there, as I said it topped at 103 on Sat and 104 on Sun (still have the newsletter). The following Monday when we went riding and were hoping for good weather, it was probably in the 40's or 50's and we encountered snow at the higher elevations, but that's out of town some I think!
All I can offer for information is that the Natoinal Finals Rodeo is going on around the second week of December, so I'm sure you could watch that. If I ever get to go I think it would be more fun to just take in the sites and go out on little excursions then spend the evenings back at the casinos.
Don't stay at the Luxor, the big black pyramid! If you lose all your money, you can't even throw yourself off the balcony to end it all. You just slide down the side....screech!!!
hello from vegas! you guys will want to pack pants and long sleeve shirts. if you are coming for a week then bring one pair of shorts. its a bit cold here now for lounging around the pool. you wont need more than a leather jacket unless you are from california(wimps!) i think its a great time of year to come here.
one word of advice though. even though this town is being touted as "family friendly". the scene on the strip is still for adults. the kids would have a better time someplace else. and if you're coming here to gamble; watch out for blackjack games with more than three decks, and if you play video poker, bet 5 (quarters) at a time. nothing is worse than hitting the big jackpot for $53.00
Our highs are in the mid 60's and lows are in the mid 40's. Don't worry, never gets close to 100 in November or December. Like matt said, bring long sleeves and pants. A lot of people don't realize it but we do go from two extremes. It gets way hot in the summer and can get real cold in the winter. If it is going to be windy the week you come then bring a heavy jacket. We get some wind storms here, and there is nothing worse then ice cold air going up your back! I try to stay away from the strip as much as possible because it is too crowded, but if you park and walk it is fun. I saw the Blue Man Group and liked that alot, it was only about $95 a ticket, it is at the Luxor. We do have alot of shabby hotels, but we also have some of the nicest in the world. Just make sure you do not stay downtown, that is a gross place. Another fun thing to do is to see the Hoover(Boulder) Dam. It is about 30 min. away from the strip. I think it is one of the wonders of the world? Mandalay Bay has a good buffet, it is $25 but well worth it. Just East of the strip on Flamingo is restraunt row, there are a bunch of high class places to eat down there. The Forum Shops at Ceasars Palace are fun to go through too. The Imperial Palace has a neat car collection if your wife is into that. You can do the Grand Canyon tours in the helicopters, they are not too expensive either. The Bellagio water show is fun to watch and free like they said! The Carrol Shelby factory is at the LV Motor Speedway, they make the Cobra and the series one. They have free tours, when I went I got to meet him and get his autograph. There is an endless amount of other things to do here if you are over 21. Either way, don't waste all of your money on the slots! Good luck and have fun! By the way, if you look in my gallery there is a pic of some of the strip, not the best but gives you an idea.

I stayed in Vegas a few years back. GREAT vacation spot, so long as the kids are not going with you. If they are, then the Excalibur is a great hotel for those traveling with children.
