Points to electronic ignition.
The duraspark diagram is the ford factory diagram, this is how the duraspark 2 is wired up normally, duraspark 2 systems have an integrated ignition retard feature which comes into play during startup to ease the load on the starter by retarding the timing a little (white wire), and an additonal wire that grounds the ignition box through the dizzy. The third diagram is a simple layout of the GM 4 wire setup, G and W are the magnetic pickup wires coming off of the dizzy, polarity doesnt matter here since these wires carry A/C pulses. C is the coil negative line which fires the coil off, and B is the modules and the coils power line, the module is grounded through the case.
As for the alternator it is a popular mod because GM one wire alternators are cheap, plentiful and fairly universal, so you can update that old externally (sometimes mechanically) regulated ford 60amp alternator to a more modern/reliable/clean one wire internally regulated and excited alternator.
