Contour Transmission
I was wondering if anyone has experience with Ford automatic transmissions? Girlfriend has a 1997 Ford Contour, 86000 miles, regularly maintained, 4 cyl, auto. trans, went to the store, parked, shut the car off, went in and shopped! Half hour later comes out, starts up, puts shifter in reverse, nothing happens, goes to drive car moves forward! She couldn't back out so she came home and got me! We go back to the car and I check the fluid, car in park level surface, fluid level is fine, does not smell burned. I tried reverse and nothing happened, put it in neutral but would not push backwards, click button to move shift lever and I can hear a loud click, licke a fuse or solenoid!Car has been fine with no warning of trans trouble at all, dealer says tranny is shot and wants $2650 to put in a new tranny! Any ideas what else to look for before spending money on a tranny! Thanks in advance, Kelly
