Hey guys, i'm usually in the diesel department, but my brother needs help on his 75 f100. His battery died last week, so he got a new one and now his new one died again just the other day. When i drove it, it seemed all the electricals were running solely on the alternator; the lights, heater, wipers, blinkers, everything would run real slow at idle and only spead up as the engine sped up. Does he need a new alternator or are there some wires shorting out? I'm not mechanic so any help would be appreciated.
I just replaced my voltage regulater on my 78 is was doing as your decribing and if I ran for like 3 or more hours I'd have a dead battery I had My alt tested as you might should do but I put a new voltage regulater on for $12 and wallla she has 14.4volts at running idel now.

Had this same problem on my 77. Replace battery and it still happened. In the end my alternator was the problem. I would go and have it tested. But it sounds like you need a new one. Since then no problems.
If you've got a volt meter, trace large wire coming off the alternator and test it with the vehicle running. You'll either be getting something or not, and you don't have to remove the alternator to test it.
If you have voltage coming off the alternator (should be above 13), then I would first replace the voltage regulator. About $30 at NAPA.
