Hello everyone,

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

My name is Dale and my wife (Kris) and I just purchased a 1999 PSD 4X4 crew cab. It has 135,000 miles on it and is a XL edition. This is the first diesel we ever owned and I’m learning a lot reading the “past forums’. Is there any recall information or maintenance issue we should be aware of? I’m pretty handy with a wrench and will do most of the basics (oil, filters, etc) myself.

<o></o>

The owner’s manual that came with the truck is not very informative on when to change oil, diesel additives, blended diesel, etc.

Thanks for anything you care to share

Welcome...

I use Rotella 5w40 synthetic oil which helps the cold weather starting. I also always use a diesel fuel additive in the winter and periodically in the summer. I offset the cost of the synthetic oil by extending the drain intervals. I run the oil 10,000 miles with a filter change at 5,000. The oil analysis came back fine on the 10,000 mile oil. My owners manual says to change the oil at 5,000 and the fuel filter at 15,000 miles. The oil and filters that you use along with your desired drain intervals will be up to you, but I would advise you to use a oil designed for diesel engines. You will find allot of good people with good advice here at this site. You might want to try and find out what type of oil was used in your truck before you bought it. Good Luck with your 'Stroker.

As far as recall information you can call your local Ford dealer and give them your Vin # and they can see if there are any outstading recalls that need to be performed on your truck. By the way you are going to love your PSD.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I’m reading all the old forums and am getting some great information. There is a lot of really knowledgeable diesel owners out there, what a great website.

We are headed up to our cottage in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1lace>Northern Wisconsin</st1lace> this weekend and I can’t wait to get our F250 in the woods/mud. I hope the noise doesn’t scare my trophy buck away though!!!

How do you know if the truck has a “possi” rear end? What is the difference on the automatic vs manual hubs?

You can find the axel codes on a tag on the driver's side door frame. Take that info here: http://www.drivetrain.com/Fordtrkratio_posidata.html and find your codes.

Careful in the mud, diesels tend to sink a little faster than gassers do due to the extra weight. Especially if you have the stock width tires on.
