460 Lincoln Blocks - is there a difference?

Is there any difference in the castings of a 460 Lincoln block versus a Ford 429/460 block? I remember reading long ago that the Lincoln's had a better nickel/iron content, thicker castings, and some other minor differences. I can’t verify those claims with any literature I have or by surfing the web. Does anybody know?

The same castings are used for Ford and Lincoln. There are some different castings within the 385 series, and not all were used in Lincolns (for example, the later truck blocks, Boss 429s, etc., etc.). There are some older castings that have thicker main webs and so on...but, they aren't necessarily used in Lincolns and there's nothing particularly special about a Lincoln application. I have a '77 Lincoln 460 with the standard D1VE block, used in Fords also. For most street and moderate performance usage any of the blocks will do. You may be thinking of the MEL engine series.... Hope it helps, Mike
