OK... I spent the other night changing the alternator on my 92 aerostar 3.0L. Then last night I was looking for vacuum leaks and found a small wire (about 1/8" dia.) with an end that resembles a very small spark plug boot. It has no home that I've been able to determine... but it must!! It is located just to the right of the alternator and is attached to a very large group of wires that comes from the pass. side of the engine then around the front. Any ideas? It only reaches about 2" in any givenb direction. I thought that would make it easy for me, but noooooo.lol
When I replaced the head gaskets on my 94 4.0L I found a wire like this. I could not find a connection for it. It's been a year and everything works find without it being connected. I seem to remember a thread where this was discussed. I think the conclusion was that the wiring harness was setup for either the analog or digital dash and depending on which was used a different sensor connection was needed for the temp gague. Anyway I don't think you need to worry about it not being connected as long as everthing is working now.
Exactly right....the temp sensors for digital and analog dash are different and have a different wire in the harness. Usually the unused one is bent back and taped to the one in use.
