Z71 Offroad? LOL

I absolutly love it. I love seeing people that have Z71 Offroad emblems on a truck that is totally mint on street tires. LOL. Like there's a few trucks in my area that have absolutly no offroad potential (not saying that can't do it) but they just show no need for offroading but they have the emblem sticking out like a sore thumb. At least with ford they have a FX4 and dodge has 4x4.

I don't know I just see it really funny that most of the chevy trucks on the road are z71 offroad, and they see pavement their whole life! I feel like saying "scrape that sticker off poser!"

What gets me is the new Z71's with the factory installed 20" wheels. You can't tell me those trucks are going to see offroad use.

Yeah they use the Z71 badge on everything then charge more for it. My boss the other day bought a new Tahoe and was proud that he got a Z71. Really funny cause it had nothing extra that I could see except the badge.

One of life's little mysteries- for years the Z71 package wasn't even offered with off-road tires (now std. in '05). There are people out there that think a Chevy 1/2T Silverado is actually called a "Z71."

The war between the great and the goofy rages on at GM.

Come on! The FX4 package on F-150's is basically the same thing. The dealers order all 4x4 trucks with the "offroad" package for extra profit. A real joke is the "offroad" package for two wheel drive Toyotas. I'm not saying that skid plates and heavy duty shocks are not a good thing for heavy offroad driving, but unnecessary when all you want is the on-road winter capabilites of four wheel drive.

Ya but are the upgrades worth it? Probably not. My beef is street trucks with the z71 logo. Pffft, might as well just lower it, cause you aint gonna see any offroad use.

The only worthwhile way to make your truck more capable offroad is to buy items from a offroad shop. The dealer doesn't know what they are doing.

Well, it's a little bit more than that.

Skid Plate Package
46mm shock absorbers
Off-road jounce bumpers and stabilizer bars
High-capacity air cleaner
Z71 decals
Foglamps
Heavy-duty locking rear differential
Wheel flares

FWIW, Chevy does offer a lowered version of the Silverado in an all-wheel-drive, called an SS.

20 inch wheels? I think that says it all right there. Sure couldn't air those down for more traction. One little bump and it would trash an expensive wheel. GM probably has a warrnty disclaimer if taken off road.

take a z71 on a dirt road and it bounces all over the place. my buddy can't take his z71 over 50mph on a dirt road or he'll lose it in the ditch.

What I find is that most of the chevy truckowners who buy a new truck don't want to get it dirty, always want it to shine, afriad to get it dirty etc etc. Dodge owners know how to use thier trucks and often use and abuse them. Ford guys, I haven't figured them out yet. Since they are the #1 selling truck and there are so many of them out there you get a cross of allsorts of people. I have seen manyford, off-roads and 4x4's that hae never been off the road, likewise I have seen many that have never really seen a paved road. Ford trucks just seem to take what it thrown at them better than the rest. Even though I am a DIE HARD FORD TRUCK MAN, I've alwasy thought that if you want a truck that is fastfast get a Chevy, if want somethign that rides like a log wagon and willl go through a brick wall and built like a tank get a Dodge, if you want a truck that tows the best, the most and has the best ride vs. its capability get a Ford.

Now saying that i bought a new 04 f-150 4x4 a few months ago. I am not off-roading it but I hunt alot and use it on the farm and when I have to or want to go somewhere the truck will be used go there, but it is not off-roaded strcitly for play. I have a neighbor like you are speaking of though, a tahoe and an Avalanche that are Z-71 off roads, the only off road they see is a slight hill on their driveway that gets snow on it and then our road in snowy weather. What a joke.

not to be an ***, but i wouldn't off road a Z71 just because the price, unless it wasn't mine. I wouldn't offroad a new 250 or 350 either, just because they are so expensive, any small collusion could cost a fortune to fix.

I have to agree with that. Any little scratch that makes you pucker and scream, it's not worth taking that $50,000 rig off the pavement. Around here the sagebrush gives you what's called "Nevada Pinstriping". On my $3000 truck, it's no biggie. On my uncle's $35,000 F-350, it's an ulcer.
