Uhhhh - you don't have to worry about that with a stock turbo!! A PSD will handle around 40psi before you have to think about studs and/or firerings. It's the factory turbo that you are saving by keeping the boost below 25psi - nothing else.
Well, on the one hand, thats good to know -blowing heads is expen$ive, however, ruining the factory turbo isn't exactly a cheap replacement, either. Like the other guy, my truck is my "daily driver" -while in that respect, my truck doesn't earn me a living, but on that same note, it is what I depend on -at work, play, and well, even getting groceries. I love my bike, but you can't really go hunting with a motorcycle (at least not the kind that involves deer, etc). And the more you hop up an engine, the more stress you put on it, the more it shortens the life of the beast. Its a trade-off.
I ran my '85 F-250 6.9L diesel until only a few weeks ago, and now I'm doing basic fix-it work, to sell it. I expect the '99 to last quite a while -that isn't to say that I won't "play" with it a little bit. I do have the Superchips microtuner, and I'm very impressed with the boost in power. I'd like to know what this 10k mod is that everyone keeps talking about (I did a search, but either I'm not looking in the right place, or it just escapes me), and I certainly don't frown on anyone who wants to soup-up their big truck (hell, thats what a lot of this is all about -most folks think a diesel is just a dog that makes a lot of noise, smells (to me, diesel smoke is a GOOD thing) a lot, and goes nowhere fast. Hehehehe. I LOVE those people. They just stare and wonder when I kick the throttle to the floor. hehehe.
But one must also weigh the downsides -and everything is a trade-off.
I love punching the throttle and watching to the enviormentalists horror as a huge amount of sooty smelly smoke comes billowing out of my straight pipe exhaust.
