Vin number ?

Vin number ?
Hey guys I was wondering first if the vehicle numbr was actually the "vin" number. I looked all over the truck and only found 2 tags one on the firewall and the second in the glovebox door. I also was wondering if it is the "vin" number if there is a way to look up its history such as owners and things like that because the branch says CGO so I was wondering where it came from. And one last thing is Is there a site that has the casting numbers for the block and heads. I wrote them down so I could do some searching on the engine aswell.

They don't tell too much. If you're talking about your 49, the vin is 97HC 123456.
9 - year (sorta: covers 49,50 and maybe part of 51)
7H - 6 cylinder
C - halfton pickup
six digit serial number
The data plate on the firewall only tells that much. The rating plate on the glove box door tells a little more.
You might look back thru old posts. This comes up about once a month and there are some good links in some of the replies.
