The problem I have with the interiors on 87-91 trucks is the thick, little steering wheel. I also don't like the look of the dash for some reason. The guage layout is a little cluttered for my tastes and there's just too much cloth to get torn or muddy. I don't know, it's just something about the interiors that I just don't like. Sounds wierd I know, but hey, what can I say?
The superduty line from 1999-2004 are by far the best looking trucks Ford has ever made. There perfect. They have the looks, the style and classiness. They are the definition off a truck. The 92-96 F-series. The 79s definitly. 62-66 models.
I said earlier in this forum that the 92-96 F-150 is my favourite, and it still is, but there is two things I don't like abou them.
1. The guage layout WITH a tach looks goofy. I think that it would look better if two of the small guages on the left were on the right of the tach.
2. The radio is too far away. If they could have moved it to the left that'd be better. In a 94 and newer Chevy, the radio can be reached without taking your hand off the gearshift (automatic I mean). But thats the only advantage to a Chevy.
My 86 F-150 has been growing on me a lot lately. Plus, if you can fix them up right, you can make an 80-86 F-Series look gorgeous! A guy down my street has an 80-86 F-150 Supercab 2wd that is beautiful, runs great, sounds great, all that.
My buddy's 98 F-150 Reg Cab/Short Bed is also growing on me the more I ride in it.
But the truck I have been dreaming over since Middle School has been a 96 F-350 Crew Cab Long Bed 4wd that was White with a Green Stripe Running Down the Middle of it. Ever since I saw that truck I have always wanted on EXACTLY like that. That is just the body style that I like the most.
1. '92-'96 F-series was the best looking Ford has made since the 50's. And it was still a real half-ton for the last time. This took a while to grow on me, when they first came out I didn't like them as much as the '87-'91. The upscale models with chrome looked better.
2. '04-current F-150 is just outstanding. They fixed that godawful mistake they made with the '97-'03. Hopefully they fixed the durability issues too.
3. '99-'04 Superduty was something I really liked until I realized they look a little too much like a Dodge.
4. '87-'91 F-150 was a great looking truck. The better models had the chrome grill and other trim and they looked a lot better with that.
'97-'03 F-150 was just so ugly and they turned them to a car underneath. My father bought a Dodge instead in '98, that's how bad. I won't touch them either.
If you're referring to the IFS on the front, you'll find that on your '04+ F150s also! I'll agree that the IFS isn't as appropriate for the truck application as TTB, but it sure is nice for handling! Just my .02

They might have looks some like a Dodge but thats as far as it went. The Ford was built ten times better and had a much better style. I hope your father gets rid off his Dodge for a Ford.

There was something I heard about Ford seeing how much people liked the Dodge look in '94, but they were already so far into the design phase for the '97 F-150 that they couldn't turn back. So the first thing they could give the Dodge look to was the '99 Superdutys. Take a look at the Superduty, once you know that it shows up like a sore thumb that they tried to make it look more like the '94 Dodge.
The Ford is does look better though.
Obviously a superduty is built better but he wanted to stay with a half ton like his last two F-150's. The Ford half ton was built so light and with that new IFS it scared him away. I think he's going to go to an F-250 with a V-10 next. Seems like there were a lot of problems with his Dodge.
I may be going against the grain here, but I like the 97-03 style, the 04-05 are too bulky looking to me, the older ones are too "truck like" in their interiors. I have a '03 King Ranch SuperCab, and everytime I look at it I think it's really a fine styling job. And, since I use it more as a car than a truck, the interior features mean a lot to me. In fact, the King Ranch leather seats and moonroof are the reasons I bought the Ford over the Chevy.
I have to agree, I like the front and back on the 04's but I just can't get use to the bulky side lines. I have a 98 lariat with the short 6.5 bed and extended cab I really like the truck for what I need it for.
