Injector Pump leaking?

Hi there, this is the first post for me , but i've been a member for a while. Anyway, I have a 93 F350 Crew with idi 7.3 and have notice that it's leaking fuel. From what i can tell it leaking from the injector pump, running along the intake valley then down the bellhousing. Has anyone had this problem. The truck runs great, no smoke, lots of power, easy starts. I'm going to take the pump off, but I'm just curious about were it would be leaking from on the injector pump.
Thanks alot.
P.S. - this website is great , it's helped me out alot

if its running fine and starting good, leave it alone!! why fix it if it ain't broke. if it bothers you real bad, it is probably coming from one of the injector lines because a leak on the low pressure side of the fuel system will make it hard to start. i think you would be messing up real bad to pull the i.p. unless you have done it a lot. and put them back together many times successfully. there is a lot of seals in the injector pump to be leaking, but i would let er be if it isn't real bad. 1 drop every 10 seconds isn't bad enough to hurt fuel milege in any way. just try tightening all the injector lines a little. not too tight with a 5/8 wrench.

thanks for your advice, but it's leaking pretty bad and it is from the pump not the injector lines. I pulled the pump of last night and today brought it to my deiselman and he said its common for the leak to occur at my milage, but it is time for a rebuild before the pump completly goes. i'll put the pump back in when he's done with it and see how it goes.

thats odd. to have a fuel leak but not a starting roblem. i guess its just one of the excetions or whatever. it was leaking pretty bad huh? ok i hope you get the same milege after you put it back on. tell the guy to put a 4000 rpm spring in it if you want it to run like a scalded-***-ape. mines like that and it pulls all the way to about 3600. kinda hard to keep from hittin the rev limiter of 4000 when in 1st or 2nd gear tho! 4.10's will get me off the line like a sommbtch i can whoop powerjokes chipped up 80 with exhaust to about 50-55 consistantly, then they just walk the dog. savin up for the banks sidewinder. that should leave a dent!

why wouldn't I get around the same gas milage? thanks for the advice on the 4000rpm spring. I'll talk to him about it tomorrow. Does this spring effect gas milage? the only othe modification to the engine is 3" straight exaust with see through muffler. Wondering if you've do9ne any air intake mods to get more air into the engine. i'm considering setting up a ram air system through the hood scoops on my truck. Talk to you later.

well, i believe the timing has a lot to do with gas milege.and its not real easy to get it timed just right by ear. if you know how it sounded when it idled by ear before or can remember just where the timing mark was on the old pump. then you may get pretty close, if not exactly the same. but just a hair off either way is a lot of timing for the old ford. i think they coulda figured out an easier way to get the things in time.

fuel leak

your leak is probably the weep hole in the neck of the pump.
in the neck there are two seals shaped kinda like umbrellas, one keeps the oil in engine and the other one keeps fuel oil in the pump.
the problem is that the way the seals are positioned in the neck, facing away from each other kinda like this ) ( ,if one seal starts to leak it can let either fluid in to where it dosent belong.
this is where the weep hole comes in,right between the two seals so if one leaks it leaks externally so it doesnt cause to much damage, and so you know you have a problem.
how many miles are on the old beast? 200,000+ miles is usally not a problem for these pumps.are you using any fuel treatment?this low sulfer fuel reaks havoc on fuel pumps and nozzles.

ya i run diesel treatment every two tanks. The truck has about 140,000 miles on her. From what I can tell it is coming from either the weep hole, or the mechanical advance (I think that's what the lever on the sides called). I'm planning to have the pump rebuilt since i have it out unless you know of a seal kit i can buy. I'll more than likely get it dynamic balanced at the shop after putting it back together.

the seals are on the pump shaft so if thats what it is its a cheap fix,but if it is the advance leaking it probably just as well to rebuild it.
i knew what you meant about the timing.
89ford73,just dont get caught unless you got spare green stuff laying around.
i have seen them dark blue vans here in N.Y. state check pickups.

i live in south texas, never seen no blue van. but i have seen a dps check the tanks on a pickup one time. does anyone know what the fine is?? no spare green stuff layin round here. i been thinkin bout runnin my auxilary tank straight to my pickup motor then puttin a little clear in my tanks just so if i ever get checked, they will sheck my truck tanks, not my auxilary tank. and since i have a pump on it anyways, i'll just tell them i fill up my epuipment with it.(which is no lie) i can get the clear stuff tax free, but the red burns so much better!! HI SULHER is the only way to go. another thing i have heard that works is telling the dps that you like to run tranny fluid in your fuel to keep the pump lubed. so i always keep a bottle of auto tranny fluid in the truck half full. even tho its a standard. just for a backup escae route. its worth a shot!!

hell, that aint nothin, ya'll just aint livin till you come down to texas and live with a few rednecks for a while, you'll think you've seen it ALL till we pull somethin else. lol. my buddie's got 6" stacks on his ford ranger 4-banger. and we always get drunk and do all sorts of crazy ****. one day we hooked a john boat up to the pickup and dragged it down mainstreet with me and my buddy ridin in the boat. that was fun. you wouldn't believe some of the stuff we drag down the road, old farm equipment with 4 blown out tires(just did that last week) and 25 round bales on a 40 foot gooseneck on the old ford. 3 high 22 mph downhill with the wind and 12 miles uphill with the wind, don't think it would make it if it was against the wind
