The ecg# of importance is on the rocker arms. The ecg is the high ratio rocker at 1:54 ratio instead of the 1:43 ratio.
ecz USUALLY not always means 312
Two of the engines I bought were of the ecz code one was an "A" block and one was a "C" block. The ecz-6015-c block is a 312 I already checked. I dont have the pan off the ecz-6015-a engine yet,but I think it will be a 292. The third engine is a EBU 1954 car 239.
ECG is a date code in Fords old system. In this case it is 1953 that the design drawing was made, production is often the following year. The code may carry over for several years if no changes were made. It eventually became so confusing that the current code was started in 59. IE: a B9AE block is 1959, a C9AE is 69, a D9AE is 79, etc.
ECG is actually (according to my Y block Book) one of the incarnations of our venerable Y blocks. It is a 272 version with a little higher compression ratio and putting out an advertised 172 hp.
EZG I believe is another Y block version maybe even a 312

That is only partially correct. As I said above ECG is basically a date code. To be meaningfull it has to be followed by a group #.
ECG just by itself doesnt mean squat otherwise as it covers a wide range of parts.
As an example ECG-6015 signifies an engine block since Ford uses 6015 as the group # for all engine blocks.
I think the designation ECG is important and I believe it was later than 1953 since the first 272's came in late 55 to be larger than the Cheby V8 initial offering 265.
As stated my info came from a book showing history of the Y block
Guess you didnt read my statement that the ECG was applied at the time of the initial engineering drawing. Those books of yours dont tell you that a 55 production engine wasnt started in the design cycle in 55. They didnt have computers back then either; 2 years was a fairly typical cycle.
hi all just reading your threads about heads will a 272 head fit a 292 ?
Yeah, although you'll want to start a new thread to discuss interchange issues. The ports on "272" heads are usually smaller than the ports on 292's, although in 1957 I think the 272's had the ECZ heads and big port intakes.
thanks y i ask is i just crack a head CITE on my 292 i can get sum i think they are 272 heads bore =3.62 casting number from over the phone are
heads = ECG-S69T
= ECG-6015-A
all of the one head he said to me that it was EOG-6015-A
ECG is a PN Prefix used to identify a particular engine. All FORD engines (even early FE) in the fifties used this method until, as mentioned, the system was changed to the more familiar system in 1959.
