...'cause I was working on a '79 F800 today with a bad fuel pump in the right tank. Been bad for years, and the truck's been sitting for a long time. It had 12 gallons of old gas in the tank which I had to drain out. Does anything smell worse than old, nasty, rotten gas? I spilled some on my pants, got it all over my hands, it's all I can smell. The pants are outside, been washing my hands about every 1/2 hour, still stinks. Just thought I'd share that with y'all. -TD
I work on a dairy farm 2.5 hours before and after school every day. I have one morning off a week which is when I wash my clothes. They get pretty rotten after a week of being around 70 cows and mixing feed. The bad part is is that I can't smell it anymore and people look at me funny when they get into my truck. ha..
I've heard rubbing your hands with salt and water (like a paste) is a good way to get rid of odors. I've tried it after mashing garlic and it seems to work, but don't do it if you got cuts on your hands.....
Does anything smell worse than old, nasty, rotten gas?
Nope!
We pulled the gas tank out a Tbird we derby'd this year, it had been sitting for 8 yrs(since the fmx went out)I poured the gas out outside the shop and I smelled that stuff last week when I walked out to that side....We pulled that tank out in May(probably dumped it in June or July)
Good Luck getting it off your hands! lol

Umm. Well no but I can imagine. I work at a construction site across the street from the local transfer station for the county landfill. When the wind blows from their direction and they run the compactor, the stench that wafts gently across the street could gag a maggot. Let me rephrase that question: Does anything automotive smell worse than old, nasty, rotten gas? -TD
Maybe not as bad, but cert a unique smell, Silage and cow poo. Its a very unique smell that I cant liken to anything. It is especialy bad when the silage has been stinkin in the silo for a while and the poo is fresh. OOOOO boy, that'll get people lookin at the gas station when I go for lunch!!! hheheheheeheh
Automotive, well...... How bout duck tape that has melted and releases that noxious fume. Now THAT is a bad smell, it hade my head spin. Ha, prob sumptin cancerous in it. Duck tape is automotive related, nobody can deny it.
Gas smell of any kind is hard to remove. I just replaced an in-tank fuel pump and had regular gas stink on my hands. I used a big glob of "Purell instant hand sanitizer" mixed with "Dial liquid hand soap and it took off most of it. At least my wife can't smell it on them anymore. My nose is kind of "fumed out" after that job.
I love the smell of Gasoline...not old or nothen and i aint a gas sniffen freak...Diesel on the other hand is foul. Wouldn't fast orange or Go-Jo do well to get rid of odors? or atleast mask them lol.
