I put my driveshaft on the truck last night and bolted a flat bar to the shifter arm. This morning I took it out for a spin in the field out back. I got it into 3rd gear but don't know how fast I was going with out a speedometer. I also didn't have working brakes so I just put it in neutral and coasted to a stop to shift.
I have a windsheild and I had the side windows rolled down. I was wearing ear plugs because with open headers and no tranny cover it gets loud. My dad took it for a spin after me and I could hear him clearly which is 3/4 of a mile away. The nationals is a bit too far and I doubt people would want to see my truck when there is a $25 000 truck beside it.
You know there are a lot of budget trucks there, more than high dollar trucks. The cool thing is driving there and hanging out with the FTE group. We have a great time and not everybody drives thier truck some bring the family in the family car.

"I drive a 'girly' 302 because, when I want to go fast, I go to work"
i have a 302 that will be going into my 1955 , with the price of gas getting so crazy i thought the girly 302 would be just fine lol. besides most of the tire smoken days are over for me anyways .
Way to go Nathan. And I agree with Himmelberg. Most of those high dollar trucks are store bought. Your building yours bucks down with lots of determination.
Way to go Nathan. It's learning to appreciate what you have and knowing that you did it yourself that counts. The Lord gave us all certain abilities and how we put them to use is important. Those $25.000.00 rigs are nice and most often inspire us when working on our own rigs. If you have a picture in your mind of what you want your truck to look like when completed and you get close to that then what else do you have to worry about. Good luck with the vision.
Yes, it's low buck all the way and a lot of luck so far. The 302 I bought from a mustang wrecker doesn't burn oil and runs great. It came with everything alt, PS and since it had CFI he gave me a Duraspark Dizzy and Motorcraft 2150 carb at no extra cost for a grand total of $550 CDN. Then to find a good AOD from a wrecker cost $700 CDN with 30 day warranty. I managed to find one at a pull it yourself yard for $117 CDN. It was in a rolled '90 Crown Victoria and the odometer said 97 000 km. The rear intake seal was gone on the 5.0 so the transmission was covered in oil and there was even some on the driveshaft. It took 5 hours to remove it but I think it's was worth it for a smooth shifting tranny. It also was nice that 302 was originaly attached to an AOD so the newer AOD bolted up fine which was nice that I didn't have to find a flywheel. I think the truck will spin the tires but since it has knobby mud tires and driving on dirt doesn't help. I guess I just have to get on the pavement that is 1 km away . Desktop Dyno lists my engine at 230 HP at flywheel so adding transmission loss I'd be at about 190 HP with 280 LBS-Torque .
