Yes, I have the CES module with the X-Montior gauge package. See my gallery for photos of the X-Monitor.
The CES (cool engine shutdown) module connects to the X-Monitor via a data cable and the clips to the keep alive wire for the PCM and also connects to the brake light wire.
If the EGT is above your user selected set point, it will apply battery voltage to the keep alive wire and keep the truck clanking away until it cools down or until some time limit like 10 minutes or so has expired. If you press on the brake it will kill the motor right away. This keeps someone from driving off very far, plus gives you a way to shut down the truck in a hurry.
I have mine set to 350 deg F preturbo. It usually shuts right off but will sometimes run for 30 seconds or so. Even when towing my trailer it rarely runs for more than a minute after I've come to a stop.
So if you can discipline yourself to wait 30 seconds each time you stop, or for a minute after you've been running hard without any chance for the motor to cool down, I would think that you could get by without one. But it's a nice piece of mind.
The other nifty feature of the CES is the audible alarm that works in conjunction with the display on the X-Monitor. If you exceed your user programmed max EGT, Boost, or Tranny temp, the audible alarm starts chirping.
JD, I have the Ford remote start also that is manufactured by Code Alarm.
Not sure if it is the "Gold" system though. In the Code Alarm manual it says it has a cool down timer. To activate it, it says to keep the brake pedal pressed for 5 seconds after you put the trans in park. I can't get it to work. Any ideas?
On mine, it's the same as starting it.... except it's already running.....
you know you hold the blue button (on mine) for a count to start it ?
Well, to leave it in a timed shutdown mode:
with the engine running, in park, and the key in the run position,
hit and hold the blue button for a count...
(mine locks the doors at this point so I know it's rec'd the signal)
turn the key off and pull the key out...
leave the truck and lock the doors and it runs for 10 minutes .....
nothing about the brakes, etc... that i have to do....
hope this helps... and it may be that each of ours is configured differently...
I know there are a lot of variables...
Ahh ok. This procedure you describe is the "Quick Stop" feature listed in the manual for the purpose of leaving the truck running while you go into the corner store to grab a coke or something. Its states that when you push the blue button once it puts the truck back into the "remote start" mode, almost like you just started it with the remote. I have used this and it works good. I think it runs too long though, especially if the remote start timeout is set to 25 minutes like mine is. Did the dealer give you the code alarm manual when you got yours installed? I have mine and it says for the cool down timer you do this thing with the brake pedal. Of course I can't figure it out though. It says that the "Turbo Timer" will run for 5 minutes then shut down. The model number on mine is CA-530. I will go to the Code Alarm web site and see if I can find any info there. I'll post my findings later.
