Drop in Liner - wise to prep bed first?

Not much of an autobody person here, so bear with my question:

I have a drop in liner. Under rail from penda-liner. I went with that for my own reasons.

Would it be wise to prep the bed itself (metal) with something like zero rust and then drop the liner back in?

I don't want to find out that a few years later my bed is rusting.

Thanks for the input

Ranger,
Anykind of metal prep would be a good idea if you plan on installing that bed liner.
I dont use bed liners because im not all that rough on the truck in that case.
If i was going to use "ANY" kind of liner I do think i would shoot for a RHINO or the aftermarket do it yourself spray in liner. You'll get moisture under the other liners and the pray in is alot like the metal prep your going to be using anyways. The spray in liners are great from what i've seen and read reviews on.
All the best,
Matt

Yeah,
That is what I thought. I haul a lot of heavy things at the cabin and the drop in liner provides me with a bit more protection.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I'll look at prepping the bed and using an aftermarket DIY product to keep the rust from happenin'

I have never seen a drop in liner that didn't have rust under them when they were removed. They shift, slide and vibrate on the bed and hold moisture, eventually eating away the paint and rust is inevitable. The worst ones are the ones that extend up and on top of the bed rails.

Thumbs up yeah man....

You is the MAN!!!!!
PREP that bed... Not meaining to post this but hook into this...
Its a DO IT YOURSELF Liner...
http://www.bestdarnparts.com/herculiner.html
For the Moneys i would same the bed if its in any good shape...
But if you dont care? Just install the Liner... This under the Liner may work for you also... Its Cheaper than a RHINO...

I've "NEVER" use this myself...I've just heard about it.
ANY "Autobody" or Automitive Store should carry such...

The bed itself is in perfect shape. I don't think the prior owner hauled anything heavier than blankets...hahaha.

I've got a cabin where I'm hauling crap around all weekend long (propane cylinders, split oak, air compressors, generators) so I threw in a drop in liner to help protect 'da baby' from dropping anything or scraping.

I'll give that herculiner a closer look. I think I've seen that at the local parts store.

I have a 92 with a drop in liner that was put in when the truck was new. I can pull it out by myself in 5 min. or less, I do this a couple times a year and hose any dust off. There is just one small spot where it as rubbed the finish off. But one small rub in 12 years thats not bad. The good part I can pull it out and go back to painted if I want, and what does it do for your resale. I have used spray in liners on a couple of older trucks to hide alittle ruffness in the bed.

hey,
i just got a 93 ranger and want to line-x the bed. if the bed was rusty when i pulled up the plastic liner, would i have to address that before i got it sprayed? or would the line-x fix\halt the rusting? (basically, is it bad like painting over rust?)
