Hi, its been a while since i last posted, but here i go
I realize that these are really quick numbers so don't hate me ha.
I've got a '98 Ranger, 4.0L v-6 4x4 extended cab, and i really would like to get a new exhaust to get that extra 8hp/2mpg but A)I don't want it to sound like i cut off the pipe at the exhaust manifold and b)have enough money to buy the new brittney spears album, however, i guess i can sacrifice B.
Anywho, i measured the stock exhaust to have a diameter of 2.5in, meaning that it has an area of 15.42 sq in.
My question is, would i get better results if i went with a new single exhaust with a diameter of 3.5in (area of 30.23 sq in), or a duel exhaust with two 2.5in (area of 30.84 sq in)?
Thank you for your time

Factory exhuast isn't really 2.5 the way it's measured, atleast I don't think. You really shouldn't go much bigger. The bigger you go, the slower the exhaust is pushed through the pipes. The big thing is to have mandrel bent pipes, so the size is the same even as the pipe is curved, not crimped like the stock system. A good catback system is Gibson. It's a 2.5 single side exit, mandrel bent. They're a little louder than stock, but not much. If you're looking for performance and not just loud, get the Gibson, and stay away from Flowmaster (loud, raspy).
