Backup Sensor or forward sensor

My wife drives the 99 f250 quite often now and said she needed a backup sensor system. She saw them on a newer F250. I contacted the dealer and they were It cant be done blah blah blah unless it was a factory option. So l looked on ebay and found a bunch of backup sensor setups. Will say it went smooth on the install and it works great. I was surprised how accurate it was. What I am wondering is has anyone installed the same sensors on the front of a truck. She can never tell how close she is to a car in a parking space and was thinking about doing a 2 sensor system on the front. The only problem is the sensors for the backup are turned on when the truck is in reverse. I would have to find a way "toggle switch or something" to turn on the system when you come to a parking space.

Never thought about it before but it would be cheaper than someones Beemer bumper. I'd say a switch would work fine.

What would happen of you just had them on all the time the engine was running? That would be a great tailgating reminder as well I would think.

Its an early warning system for falling asleep at the wheel. It starts to pickup at 5 feet away so at least I will just run over there back bumper instead of there whole car.

I got it on Ebay. I cant remember the seller but this is the type I got. The key is drilling the holes in the bumper at the correct height and angle. You need them angled up a little bit or they will bouce off the ground and make it like your to close to something. I will post some pics of my system. You can use PCV valve holders to put in the holes on the bumper cause you cannot put the sensor into Metal. I have the 4 sensor system but the 2 would be plenty. Will probably have to copy and paste the link below.

Posted some pictures of my backup sensor system. THe white tube under the truck holds the brains to the sensor system. The lines are not long enough to reach into the truck so I had to make this up. The lines for the buzzer and display are long enough to reach into the truck.

The pics look good. I like the tube. Can you explain some more about how the sensors can't touch metal?

None of the backup sensors can touch metal. I guess it will just bounce the signal off the metal even if its not directly in front of it. The sensors just dont sense in a straight line but its a rather large angle. up,down and side to side. That is why you need to angle them up a little bit or it will sense the ground instantly and say your 2 close. Look at the new trucks with them and you will see them angled up just a little bit. The system I have is nice. My sysytem will tell me when Im 5 feet away then full beep when Im 1.5feet away. The only thing is if your backing up down a steep driveway it will bouce the signal off the pavement and come back saying your 2 close. The use of Rubber gromets around the sensors also allows for the sealing of the hole you have to put in the bumper. You can also go with another system that has it in the license plate frame. I heard they work pretty good also.

That's a great idea rosa70 , some trucking companies are installing these sensors on the right side of their tractors to let the driver know there is something in their blind spot . They are also putting them on the front of trucks too , it lets the driver know he/she is tail-gating and to back off !
