Front hanger drop?

Im looking for a way to drop my front most spring hangers ('79 F-250). I want to drop them because i want to keep a stock ride. I've been researching this and I like the way Pro did his with his truck but the thing is that I dont need to incorporate a hitch into this. I already have a winch bumper and all with good tow points. I was wondering if you guys (Pro) think that if I fab up something similar to the shackle reversal for the 92-97 trucks on sky manufacturing's website, that that would work for me? Something that I can bolt in and gain a good 3-4" with? I would not use the 1/4" steel though I would probably go with 5/16 with a shcedule 40 2-2.5" tube in between. Do you think that this will be strong enough?

Sure. You lost me on the Schedule 40 though...I thought that only pertained to pvc?

It also pertains to well casing. The shackle reversal style setup seems like it would be ideal. Doesn't the stock mounts bolt to the frame anyway? I am not that familiar with the leaf sprung fords, but a new bolt on would seem pretty easy, as long as the rear hanger is correct to keep the caster correct.

haha thanks Pro. BTW my dad is in the fencing business and schedule 40 is a grade of tubing(steel). I don't know the exact specs but it is about 1/4" wall, aka very heavy ***** especially in 6-5/8" diameter but it makes one hell of a bumper haha. So you agree with me that just bolting up to the stock hanger spot (5 bolts?) will be strong enough? I noticed that you have some supports going back to the crossmember? Oh yeah your truck is the sweetest truck ever I hope someday in the very near future mine will be that awesome. Mines gettin there though with the dual dana 60's 38" tsl's and some other stuff, but still not big enough.thanks again

Oh yeah thanks ted for bringing that up, I was figuring that this will actually improve my driveshaft angle, but I did not think about caster. Will that bring up another major issue?

nice fishman...thats exactly what i was going to do originally, but then i decided to get creative so I used a piece of 3.5" SS40 that fit in between the bed right under the tailgate. i then got 3 (2 short 1 longer)pieces of 2.5" ss40 and sort of made the type of tube bumper that you see for sale on the project bronco website. Also I incorporated a reciever hitch inbetween the two. I wish I had a digital camera to show you all the things I have made/ done to the truck but I dont.
Oh yeah so what can I do about the caster now? The truck is drivin on the street.

Drop the rear of the spring the same amount as the front. Shackle reversal or something.

sounds like a pretty sweet bumper setup!

i just did the shackle reversal on the front of mine not to long ago (sorry no pics for this project ) and i haven't had any caster problems at all. if you are worried about it though you can get a set of 2* or so shims to get your axle back where you want it. I highly suggest going 1/4" if possible...overkill is better than underkill!

You guys are killing me here.

It would be really easy to build an extended shackle if you do a reversal so that you don't have to hassle with shims and all that mess. Plus you'll get a little more lift out of it.

Why would you want to do a shackle reversal on a 79 the shackle is already in the back?

Doesnt' the rear shackle mount go through the frame? I guess you could have really long shackles or make a mount that spaced the upper hole the exact amount down as the front and reuse the stock shackles.
