I understand this is a Ford forum and such, but really... why all the trash talk? In me and my family's experiences with trucks, we've never really had problems with Chevy, Ford, and even Dodge trucks. The only problems we've ever has was Explorers 4WD system, and the 03 Dodge 1500 ran very rough when it was cold (tendency to cut off). All minor problems, that werent difficult to fix, and some never needed fixing. I'm just using this as an example... A Duramax tows 16,900.... the Powerstroke tows 17,300 (IDK if those are the real figures but theyre just examples), who really needs to tow 16,900 pounds? Average Joe Blow probably doesnt tow anything more than a lawn mower trailer. Yes, there are exceptions, people with big boats, etc., but in the majority of truck owners, we dont all that power... not saying its bad to have . I'm just talking all these little posts that come up just to trash a particular brand.. are kinda immature... kinda like makin fun of the kid who didnt have the Michael Jordan shoes that you had.
You bring up a good point and that is why it is in the forum rules:
ONLY TECH TALK IS ALLOWED IN THIS FORUM
The purpose of this forum is to make intelligent comparisons of other makes against ford. They don't have to be in favor of Ford but they must be reasonable in any matter or direction. NO BRAND BASHING WILL BE ALLOWED! PERIOD!!
I think most people look at many other variables when picking a truck. All the diesels seem to be very comprable in power/transmission department. However, many people look at interior room, suspencion (4x4's) Brakes, etc. For example, my family tow's a lot. For the small trucks, a 5th wheel is the most it will tow. We currently have a Chevy 2500. It tow's just fine, but improvments could be made. When hauling 4 people, the back seat can be a little small for tall people. We are now looking at Ford, the brakes, rear seat room, and seats in general, pluss the huge feature of built in brake controller. These small things really offset the Ford when compared to the Dodge. And no, most people dont push the tow limit on the trucks (think the new for is at 22,500lb) but we do, and for that reason we dont use the light duty trucks anymore. We had a F550 and the tranny was about shot, and we snapped an overload bracket on the suspencion, not to mention sagged the suspencion 2" (from factory height with no trailer to 2 years later with no trailer was 2" lower) For this reason, we stepped up to the medium duty trucks like the Freightliner FL-60. We upgraded trailers, and the hitch weight OVER the rear axle is pushing 15,000lb. No Ford/Chevy/Dodge light duty truck would ever take that. I dont really think its trash talk, people have differnt uses for trucks and different trucks suit that need better than others.
i agree, a good friendly arguement is always good when its civial and kept technical...some of these people take it to seriously and blow things WAY outta perportion. then comes the "well my truck does this, my buddies had problems with this, i owned this model before and it was junk" and then it all goes to hell. i congrautlate the mods on keeping this place fairly cival. dont see this kind of forum on other boards. keep up the good work.
I've read quite a few of the threads on here (even a few of the older ones towards the bottom) and it got pretty brutal at some stages... WOW. It appears I joined during a cool down stage or something.
I dont see why some people take things so personaly when some one is just giving their opinion. This forum isnt a fight forum or something. Every one has their own opinion about things and its up to who ever to feel mutual about it or dont agree not make a big deal about it. People just need to respect each other.
Its just a hunk of steel with some rubber underneath. I have owned all the major brands. They are all pretty good. Except for that chevy chevette. Dont know what I was thinking. People get emotionally attatched. Its a weird phenomenon to me. I dont care any more for this hunk of steel than the last. It runs good and is reliable but Im not gonna bash any other make because its different from my own.
That said. Artic cats suck. Just kidding.

Any make can make a great vehicle its more so the model that can be less than satisfactory. Ive owned gm cars that where really great and some that are my worst night mare even ive owned fords like that. Me personally I do alot of research before I spend a good amount of money , exspecialy on a car. I will drive any make as long as it is reliable so I dont work on it every day and if it fits my life style and budget.
I left GM because of IFS and would not buy a Dodge with the coil spring front suspension. Is that a personal or technical statement? Tehnically speaking both systems work.
The thing that gets me is in the State of Nevada, unless you have a CDL you are not legal to towing over 10,000 #. The other thing I find is this forum gets very spirited sometimes, and that is good. I have said things that were my opinons and caught alot of flack, again that is OK. I have owned different brands, and have liked most of them. Today, I own an 86 F250 4x4 and it is one of the best I have owned, I just plain like this truck. Yet, my wife owns a 04 Chevy Trailblazer and she really likes it. I also like driving it. The 4.2L 275 HP. 275 FT/LB torque really moves. We looked at the Explorer and we both prefered the Trailblazer. Both my wife and I have owed over 12 Fords in our life so I would say we are Ford folks.
It is competition related. The higher GVW on the new Ford lowers the combined wieght of combination to the trailer being towed, unless it is recreational.
Class A -- Any combination of vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Class B -- Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR.
