99 Ranger

Hey guys went truck shoping today and i test drove a 1999 Ranger Xlt super cab with the 3.0 flexfuel V6. It was a 4x2 and it had 27k on it drove really nice and is in GREAT shape. I was wondering Why does a XLT not have power windows, mirrors or doors. I was really shocked when i got in it. But it did have a CD player go figure. Any way Is the flew fuel V6 a good engine and what about the tranny how long to they last whats fuel MPG and also is the ranger a Good truck i will be trading in my F150 since i really don't need the long bed and the big V8 and 4x4 so.

PS. I went there to look at a 1995 lightning but they sold it before i got there so i took the ranger out and i kinda liked it.

There are different option pkgs. available. My '99 XLT 3.0 has power windows, mirrors, locks and the CD/Tape Radio. I purchased the 3.0 because Ford was offering that engine free at the time and the 4.0 would have cost me $1,000 more. The engine runs great and has given me no problems but I wish I had spent the bucks for the 4.0.

I've got a '98 XLT 4-banger with a 5 speed. Had a bearing go bad in the trans at 55k. It was grinding on the 2-3 shift only and got progressively worse. When I bought the truck (used) it happened once or twice and I figured I was at fault. I eventually had to get it rebuilt (warranty job). I think the previous owner missed a shift once or twice.
I've got 140k on it so far and am still knocking down 25mpg consistently. Good little truck.

thanks for the info guys after i posted i saw a Ad for a diffrent dealership so i took a ride and i Found a 1999 Ext cab ranger with the stepside bed 4x4 and auto. it was a better deal in the long run. I kinda hate Auto but This one is less for more at 11900 as were the other one was 13999. The first one has 27k and the one i am really going to buy is 34k so. It also does not have power locks or windows or mirrors. I think i can deal just have to wait to see if i can afford payments. Will let you know if i buy it.

In a 4x4 the 3.0 might be a little undered powered. I have a 2000 FF 3.0 2wd SC and I can get any were from 14 to 24 mpg, just got 22.3 on my vacation, almost 100% highway.

I thought the same thing about the 3.0 but after i got in the truck and took it out it did very well. I spun the tires as i pulled out of the stop and shop were i turned around to head back to the dealer. I was just glad the dealer guy was not with me.
