Plow setups

I just got a 94 a couple of months ago with a 5.0. I live in boston and am trying to make some money with it this winter. I don't know much about plows though so I have a couple of questions.

I am looking for a used plow: What size should I get? (Just for plowing some driveways, maybe small parking lots)

What mounts will bolt up to my frame?

Or can I buy new mounts for my truck and just buy the plow part used?

And also are the optimum deep cycle batteries worth getting? My battery is fine but I am worried that hooking up a plow (plus I already have a 1600W amp in the back) will kill the battery I have at the wrong time.

P.S. I am new to the site but have already gained an enormous amount of knowledge (and amusement) from the site. Glad I found it and thanks in advance for the help

Will

Snow plow

You need the proper equipment and knowledge to mount a snow plow. I've been using a Western Unimount plow for ten years on my 86 Bronco and then transferred it to my 91 which has an identical frame. The frame must be drilled to mount the push arms and the plow itself must match the push arm assembly. Plus, to be legal (at least in Pa.) the lights must be properly wired which requires the proper wiring harness. I use the biggest battery I can find (1000 AH) but it still dies when plowing at night with the lights and heater going. Must be careful not to stall it. A deep cycle battery won't help this. I like the unimount because everything detaches from the vehicle except the push arm assy. which is bolted to the frame.

Thanks for the info.

My problem is the place that sells and installs plows won't install a setup on my truck. He says he can't even get me one cause it's not safe. My front GVW is 2800 lbs and he says the minimum is 3200. He was basically telling me that his S10 in the front had a stonger suspension. He told me that I can probably find a setup and get it installed somewhere, but I will more than likely crack the frame and front axle.

So I just want a second opinion. I don't want to tear the truck up just to make a little money. How much wear will putting a plow place on this truck? Is the front end really that weak? I have seen a ton of S10 blazers with plows.

Thanks for the info

My 91 Bronco has the same front axle rating, 2800 lbs. The Western dealer said it is light so they installed an AirLift air bag kit in the front springs. The Bronco does just fine with a 7 foot plow. Did very heavy plowing with it and it works fine. Talk to some other dealers and visit www.westernsnowplows.com. (I think that's the web address)

Need Help With Plow Controller issue

Evening,

I have an older western 8' plow with a Cab Command Hand Held Controller. It was working fine operating the plow side to side and up/down. I did notice the headlights dim a bit ( I just had the battery replaced and never asked how many cca there are in the new bat). Anyway, all of a sudden the plow blade would not raise. I noticed the power indicator light was off on the hand held controller. I pressed the power button and it powered up as normal. I went to raise the plow and i felt a click come from inside the handset and then the power light went out. I tried again for left and right and it did the same thing. Is there a fuse or relay I should know about somewhere to replace? Ofcourse this happened during the first blizzard in northern NJ. Thanks so much in advance.

I had a Fisher 7" on my '89 F150. If you are in New England, Fisher plows are by far the most common and easiest to get parts for. You should have very little trouble finding a setup for your Bronco. I would get heavier front springs (or air springs) and a heavy duty alt if it uses an electric pump. The older Fishers used an engine driven pump so they don't stress the electrical system.

The idea of an S-10 being stronger than ANYTHING is laughable. I wouldn't plow with a snow shovel strapped to the nose of an S-10. That's some Chebby schmuck being an idiot... wait is that redundant?
