I'm really glad to have found this site. I'm way to poor to afford most garage service (I'm the sole support for a family of 4)!! I'm generally mechanically inclined and I take care of most of our basic auto maintenance needs myself...but this one is a bit beyond me.
On Saturday, my 2000 Ranger 4x4 3.0L Flex Fuel v6 (wimpy engine!!) made it known that I needed to change the spark plugs and wires. There was an obvious misfire in one of the cylinders...but without the analytic equipment I couldn't tell which one. I decided to replace them all and the wires as well. When that was done, I still experienced the problem. I started second guessing myself on whether or not I put the wires in the correct location and I can't find any kind of diagram that can tell me.
The old plugs were trashed - so it definitely needed to be done. My truck has about 60k miles.
Is there something else I should check? Fuel filter?
Good suggestion. I will check on that too. Using the diagram, I verified that my wiring connections were correct - thanks again. But unfortunately, I still have the problem.
DougTaylor: Look for the obvious things such as a cracked/loose vacuum hose, corrosion around any electrical connections etc.
Usually Autozone and the like will scan the codes for you. If your CEL light is not on there may be a "stored code" which will point you in the right direction.
