fuel gauge doesn't work

I Drive a 5.8 liter full sized Bronco and the fuel gauge doesn't work which is very frusterating calculating the miles that I have driven and the fuel in my tank. Everything else works real well I would just like to know how much fuel I have at all times. Does anyone have any Ideas on what could be the problem.

Most likely a bad fuel sending unit and float in the tank. Very common problem with broncos. I think someone has done a techwrite up on how to fix it Should'nt be too hard to replace...lowering the tank.

*If* everything goes well, it's about 3 - 4 hours to replace the sender.

I have had to replace 2 fuel floats on my Bronco and one on my F150. The same thing, they get a tiny pinhole and fill with fuel. Very annoying. You can buy the brass floats new for a few dollars.

Have you checked the fuse? I drove mine for three months without a gas gauge before finding out that was the problem.

That might not be it, but sometimes it's the simple things.

That's what mine did. Just sat on E.

On my 89, the fuse panel is under the dash, right above where your left foot sits. Mine still has the fuse schematic on the back of it that showed what is what. I think it was listed as Fuel Guage.

Didn't have what, a guide for the fuse locations?

I've got a Haynes manual here in the office with me, and I couldn't find one in there for the your year.

You could pull each fuse to see if any are busted. Might take you a few minutes, but it could also save you from pulling the tank.

Mine does it when it gets real cold, about three months out of the year. Weird.
