Cool, those headers are my neighbors but if I needed them I could use 'em.
At this point I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it to change out my existing headers or try and do the cheap $ fix... If I get new headers I already told myself a while back that I will get cermamic coated ($100 more), so that'll be around $250, + getting my exhaust refitted for the ball-type = maybe $100 more.... plus the time it takes to remove old headers, scrape old gaskets off, scratch everything up, possibly hoist the motor up (which requires unbolting motor mounts, exhuast, hooking up bolts/chain to hoist, etc etc) who knows what else I can't think of right now........ or if I can just get glue, wrap, or something to stop the noise leakage... damn, old school headers!!! Any thoughts?

There's alot out for me to learn and since I started this thread I have learned that I have the ball/socket type collectors. No leaks. I've got the Hedman headers, and even though they are not expensive, I love 'em. I didn't want to deal with all the aggravation of putting them on so I paid a guy $120 to do it for me. Worth it to me.
Napa calls this stuff "Muffler and pipe sealing compound", part number 85959.
Its kind of a permanent goop, but can be removed by scraping, etc. like I said before, dont get any on your fingers!! This stuff will seal most any exh,
however, it wont seal up if the flanges are really bent or distorted.
Hope this helps out......
Hey thanks CrazyAirman. I went to my local exhaust shop today.. I'm dropping my truck off tomarrow morning and they're gonna cut off my old style collectors and weld new ends on for around $40 labor + parts, so it shouldn't be too bad. Worth it to me if it fixes it. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
I like my hedman headers, they are good quality. I ordered a set from Summit, then 6 months later I ordered some for my neighbor and they came with the new style ball collector (as show in the pic). I dunno if summit sold me their old stock or if in that 6 month period Hedman changes their style but I sure wish I got the ball type... therefore I wouldn't be in this situation.
Thats a good price
I'm going to check into the headmans myself, I just run some el-cheapos, and cut and weld directly (benifits of doing exh work.... I also have a tendancy to change my muffs about every two months or so, I have so many sets of slightly used sets of different brands, it aint funny) I'm hoping that they dont come down as far as mine do now, so's I can tuck things up more.
I did not use any gaskets where the collecter meets the pipe and I dont know If I have any leaks, I dont think it is and is sounds fine to me so I dont think ill bother. I just used those metal flange things that come with the headers and put it on. Even if it does leak I dont care as long as it doseant sound bad.
Problem fixed: the exhaust shop only charged me $46 today. They reworked my headers, and pipe, added two more hangers for support and sure enough no leaks. I'm happy!
