I am having a hell of a time finding a brake booster for my 69 f-100 390. I am doing a power conversion from manual and can't seem to find a booster that fits the firewall. It looks like there must be a bracket between the two. Any comments?
What year/model booster should i start with?
thanks
there is a bracket between the firewall and booster. ive got a 69 and did the same swap. it took alot of searching for me. the 67-72 i believe is the smaller booster and the 73-79 may be the larger booster. i believe either one will work. i'm sure someone will correct if i'm wrong. hope this helps.
I am trying to do the same conversion on my 1970 F100. I have the booster, but don't know exactly what else I'll need.
Is the linkage different from the pedal to the booster, or will it bolt right up? If I need different linkage and/or a bracket, where can I find them? It's getting very difficult to find a junkyard around here with trucks that old.
Depending on what engine you have....most should work from 73-79. I'd try looking for one out of a 67-72 One Ton truck. They're smaller in diameter, but deeper than a stock half ton's booster is. They'll clear your valve covers if you have an FE block residing under the hood. A booster off an M block or 460 will not clear the wider FE block's top side, unfortunately.
the linkage is the same, it bolts right up. just finished mine. i had to search and hunt for quite some time to find the bracket and a small booster. they tend to fit better than the bigger diameter boosters. good luck with your conv.

Thanks! I got the factory replacement booster for that year. Do you think I'll still need a bracket if I get the proper booster? I guess I can always make one in my machine shop if I have to.
By the way, it has the straight 6 engine. I have a copy of the build sheet (got it FREE from Ford!), and power brakes were optional, but weren't ordered by the original owner.
It should be a good weekend project and no more standing on the brakes to stop fast.
Ya got me thinking also. I have a 68 CS manual brakes (drum drum) 12 X 2 1/2" shoes. I just got a master cylinder and booster, 8 1/2" diameter, both brand net at Pick-n-Pull that kicked rods, vented block 72 F 100. The MC looks the same as the one on my F-250. Do i have the right parts to have power brakes vs the manual i have now? I also have the bracket to mount the booster away from the firewall as well as the brake linkage to the brake peddle. My CS is a FE powered vehicle. Sorry if i ran with this thread. Carl

The M/C should be the same. So long as the booster came out of a vehical with the FE motor, or is at least the smaller diameter, you should be fine. Hope you took the proportioning valve too. That is the real key part here. When you change over to disc brakes is when you really have to change both the m/c and the valve to be sure things work right.
FF4E, at the present time i want power brakes on the drum front vs manual brakes. I have spindles, 6 discs (2 are brand new), 3 brake calibers and 2 proportioning valves. Yes i'm a packrat. I'll change over to disc this spring. Is ths master cylinder different for disc vs drum? I have A.D.D. sorry. Thanks for the help. Carl.......o&o>..........

Anyone know if I'll need a special bracket for my conversion?

you should still need the bracket to set it off the firewall. the rod will be to long if you dont. i lucked out and my booster had the bracket on it.
Six Niner, in the wreckers i've seen many booster brackets left behind as people want the mc and booster only. Seems also the steering columns are a hot item as well as steering boxes. Carl......o&o>.........
I'm thinking about going the *other* direction. I already have power brakes on my 1972 F250, and in the name of simplifying things under the hood, I'd like to go to manual. Is there anything I should look out for when I do this swap? I never carry anything heavy, I'm the only one who drives this truck, and I don't think stomping a lot harder on the brake would bother me.
Hey, Mil1ion, thanks for that great part number listing!
