Glow plug question
I was doing some tests on my truck to make sure my glow plugs are in good working order for this comming winter and after ohming the plugs i decided to see how many amps all 8 were drawing. Used my amp clamp and meter and it said over 100 amps!!! Is that correct? The on time was the right time for the temperature and the voltage at the relay was the same as battery voltage while relay was on. Anyone have info on this??

Here is my clamp on amp meter reading immediately after I changed out all 8 plugs:

GOOD news to report to everyone. Thanks everyone who offered advices. SPECIAL THANKS to QUAD for giving me his cell number, so I could call him while I’m having a problem. I did take me a total of 24 hard hours, about 8 hours shopping for parts and TOOLs. All 8 GP are replaced. 2 broke: one came out of the GP hole, one fished out from the injector hole. #7 is the hardest for me to even make a decision to go ahead considering the tight space between it and the AC evaporator. But, with the help from Quad, it did go just fine. I did have to remove the insulation and a “vacuum box” on the evaporator to get the injector out. I tested them this morning. When I turn the key, it give me ~90 amp reading into all the GP for ~ 2 min. From now on I will check them at least once a year and replace ones that are out to keep the nasty carbon buildup from forming. Thanks again. Erwin
