What options do I have for a manual trans that will bolt up to the 400. I currently have a C6 and am trying to decide whether I want to modify that or swap a manual in. I have a 79 f150 4wd.
I swaped a NV4500 in place of my C6 and I love it. I never did like autos and I wanted an overdrive so it was the only way to go for me. The ratios are also alot better than the np435. I paid ~$2600 for a new 2003 trans and all the adapters as a kit from Advanced Adapters. $50 for the clutch linkage and bellhousing from the j/y. Then $300 for the clutch. Conversion was very easy. Didn't even have to modify the length of the driveshafts on an auto truck. There is an article on here on puting a E4OD in a BB but it makes the nv look cheap.
So you purchased everything from Advanced Adapters except the clutch, clutch linkage and the bellhousing? So all you pretty much have to do is call them to get hooked up?

You got it. I called them and the trans showed up on a truck about 2 weeks later. I priced the trans through a dodge dealer and even with a friends employee discount, I couldn't beat AA's price. About 1850 for the trans only. In the package AA sells you get the trans, 2 adapters, pilot bearing, transfer case shifter mounts, center tranny mount and a little stub shaft that connects the xfer to the trans output. Keep in mind if you already have a np435 then you will have to buy a new disc because the NV has a different size/spline input shaft. Also the stock NP435/205 combo is something like 3 or 4" shorter than the C6/205. So a NP435 to NV conversion will require different drive shafts. I think most conversions probably require different length shafts, I just got lucky on mine.
Cool, that is the combo that I have now............NP435/205. Just looking for alternatives to the current setup I have now. I would really like to have an overdrive. You wouldn't happen to know what the NV4500 is good for...........horsepower and torque? Just wondering cause I should be running about 500 lbs. of torque when I get done with the rebuild on the 400.
