Here's the new bracket I had to fab up for the Saginaw style pump to mount to the motor plate. It's not cleaned up yet, but I couldn't wait. This was the last thing keeping me from doing some longer test/tune runs on the truck. Summit should send me a handfull of power valves tomorrow, if so I'm tuning this weekend.
We've had about 4" here so far. Monday we had a high of 27 degrees. We are warming up for a nice weekend though, it's supposed to get over 50 degrees. Perfect for workin' on the ol' rig. I've probably got about 2hrs of work to do to it before I can take it for a ride again. I'm gettin' jacked.
They love me at the local Napa store. Because so many of my parts are non-standard, and because I do so much business with them, when I need to take something to test-fit it, they just let me take it one day and bring it back the next. If it fits I pay for it the next day. They also let me rummage through all their stuff in the back to find just the right combinations. The honor system is cool. Of course I also promised them all a ride when it's done!
Do you think your electrical system is up to the task? mine seems stressed and I don't have the electric water pump. Iwish I did have an electric water pump, then I could let it and the fan run for a bit after I shut off the engine. I hate to see that temp spike after I shut her down.
I'm thinking about putting the battery in the bed next to the fuel cell, and adding another battery.
Should be. I put in a 105? amp GM style 1 wire alternator just for that reason. I'm going to put the fan on a thermostatic switch over the winter so it doesn't run all the time. In fact I'll bet it only runs at idle unless its a real hot day, 80+. So far I haven't seen anything that would cause me concern wiring wise. I tore the entire electrical system out and cut it to pieces so I wouldn't be tempted to use any of it. I used a painless fuse block and put everything on relays. I think the only time the draw will become a load is if I have the lights on and the fan is running. I'll find out next summer.
NICE job Scouder. Got yourself a real work of art there!!
Doing a great job.
I remember back in the late eighties I used a local parts store just about daily. I built my first 302 on CREDIT!! Actually the counter guy just did not bill me all at once. I'd bring money in and he would print out a bill for that amount . The owner did not know of all the "shaky" deals we had going on down at the far end of the counter . It really makes a difference when you can build a relationship like that. It's hard anymore with the turn over at the local Azones/Advances . My local machine shop is about the only place left like that. Been pretty tight for 15+ yrs.

Scoot, I swear Dude!!! Your damn engine compartment is cleaner than inside my cab Bro!! You have made a real jewel there...I am VERY impressed..with the attention to detail you have done...
I think your in the wrong trade Bro...
I have my Block now in Richmond at a Buds shop...its been tanked, Sonic checked,Roller bearing Installed, Squared, decked just .002" to 10.310"
And rough bored, left .002" for final piston hone..and now he's doing the BT 4 bolt conversion on 2-3-4
I am also going to check into screw in freeze plugs? I would hate too have coolant blow out on the tires at 100=mph....Yeehaaa!
You make that Hotrod of your's much more Pretty, and she's going to have to be a Trailer Queen!! LOL!! Man She's Nice!!
Hey Scoot.
It turned out even better than our first discussions would have indicated.
It looks like the edge distances were close but sufficient to avoid cracking out. It really looks good and as with the rest of the "build", it is CLEAN.
I kniow by the time I get up there again this spring you will have most of it completed, (between snow-storms) and I will try to talk you out of another ride.
I don't want to poke all the other guys, but maybe just a little one, just this once.
I was in the truck when he put down the double, side-by-side, black marks that he posted.
It was done just roling that beast on in second gear and without banging the rev limiter even once.
Awesome just don't describe it and how you can remain as patient as the others have pointed out is beyond me.
But, keep up the good work and keep the pics coming in for all of us to see.
Question, Have you talked to the guys about your tranny any more and if so when are you going to be able to get it on the way?

Things are moving along well. Tranny is still quite a way out. The wife and I are still trying to recover from the down payment on this second house.
I've been tuning on the engine this morning, trying to find the sweet spot for everything. According to the vacuum gauge, this thing likes to have about 28 degrees of initial timing. The problem with that is that MSD doesn't make a stop smaller than 18 degrees, which means if I set the initial where it wants to be, my total goes to 46 degrees, and I get a mid range ping. So, I either need to build a new stop busing from scratch, or run my initial under where it likes to be. Also, I am having a very difficult time getting my idle to lean out. I can adjust my idle mixture screws in until I kill the engine, and the O2 gauge still shows constant rich. Probably the cam, and I'm just going to have to live with a rich idle. I'll check into that some more.
One very interesting note, cruising at 2500 rpm I have 11 inches of vacuum. I did not expect this at all. I idle at around 5-6 inches. Which power valve do you guys think I should use, 3.5 or 4.5?
