I am upgrading my engine. I have an 82 F150 with a 300l6. I bought a clifford performance intake and plan to move to the split exhaust manifolds off of a fuel injected model. Is that split exhaust, setup to run dual exhaust? or is it some wierd two-to-one setup. If anyone has a fuel injected model with this split manifold, send me a picture would ya? I would greatly appreciate it.
Don't have a picture but imagine two exhaust manifolds with 3 runnners, one bolted on the first three cylinders and the other on the last three...make any sense?
You can run true duals of them I did but I was not happy with it, if I had it to do again I would have went with a Y pipe off the manifolds (or known as down pipe) to a single 3" exhaust. IMO, the duals moved the power up in the rpms too much and kinda hurt the bottom, IMO just enough to notice. good luck with whatever you decide though...later
Try running a crossover pipe just past the manifolds and b4 the muffler. This should help the torque at low RPM. Jaguar XK engines ran this type of setup for many years and they produced plenty of power. Good luck.
Okay, so if I go with a Y pipe to 3" exhaust or crossover pipe, where do I get this stuff, do I just have a muffler shop rig it for me? Or can I find something like this in a parts yard?
Also, I noticed that the back 3 manifold has a hole in the side of it, I would presume that this is where I screw in the hose from the smog pump, is that correct?

That would be for the O2 sensor I think. EFI models didn't have an air pump. (???Did they??? My shop manuals don't show any EFI model with an air pump anyway.)
Mine's an 82. Originally it didn't have the split exhaust manifold for the EFI - I am utilizing these so that I can take advantage of a Clifford Performance Single Plane Intake and upgrade to a large 2 bbl, or a small 4 bbl carb. I have to keep some of my emissions stuff in place so that it will still pass smog. Will I screw up anything if I do screw my smog hose into that exhaust manifold? My original exhaust manifold didn't have an O2 sensor on it...
My '92 has an air pump, but it's injected at the head, no holes in th emanifolds that I've ever noticed. O2 sensor is in the crossover right before the cats.
Both front and rear manifolds can have that "hole" it is a standard 3/4 inch pipe plug. It can be/may be used for EGR tube attachment or the valve for the air system.
They are one set of manifolds for all applications but not all are drilled and taped!
So, 5_labs, I should be okay then at least visually if I were to screw in the smog pump hose to that 3/4" tapped hole. Then all I have to do if figure out a place for the egr, locate a down tube/crossover pipe and find someone to run some 3" exhaust for me.
Then I get to buy my 500 cfm 2 brrl and it's on to the next issue... the bad pilot bearing.
