I put my own code in the X last year when I bought it. It has worked fine ever since. I went to unlock it last night with my code and it would not work. I tried again today, no luck. Thankfully I have the original code and that still works fine. What would cause this to erase ? The battery is fine and has not been disconnected.
This is a good question. It would be my luck, that when I need to use this feature out of town or something, it would not work. I only know the factory number but if your still worked, I may be OK. I would like to know if it is Ford's issue, or caused by operator or just a ghost. This has the potential of causing a large problem when we rely on the keypad when running or golfing like me and do not carrry the keys and return to the truck to still be locked out.
I am sure it never lost power. I use the code almost daily. I typically will run in to get a coffee, run in the store, ect... and lock it and leave it running. I will probably just use the original code from now on. Otherwise I may get stuck somewhere if this happens again. I did not remember the factory code, but had it written down.
I never use anything but the factory code just because of this. For any reason it looses the code and you don't remember the stock code your screwed for 80 bucks to get the code from Ford.
When the dealer gets the truck they are given 2 stickers with the code on it, one is supposed to go on the door jam and the other is to go in the glove box but most don't put them on because they are to easy for someone else to see and you can't change it. If they are anything like the older ones you can get the code off the keyless entry GEM module, they put it on the sticker with the part number on it. It's the numbers in big BOLD letters. But again I'm not sure if it's the same way on the new ones but it's worth a look.
