We went out earlier today, Put our foot to the floor, a big Cloud of Black smoke came out, and then it ran fine. I have a feeling that is not the end of it...Any Help or ideas out there as to what it could be?

Thanks!!!!

Nina, you might try changing the air filter, if it's been in there a while.

Sounds like a bad TPS (throttle posistion sensor) or IAC (idle air control)..

Black smoke=raw gas. Could be fuel pressure regulator.

would black smoke be indicative of a problem with the IAC or TPS, and wouldn't they blow a code?

Thanks!

Some guys will sware that every little problem including a dirty ashtray will show up on the code test.
Myself and others have found that not to be always true. The IAC regulates how much air is allowed to bypass the throttle plates at idle depending on other conditions going on like cold start or turning on the A/C. That could be your idle problem if it's clogged up or not functioning. The TPS sends information to the computer about how open or closed the throttle is so it can make adjustments to things like timing and such. As far as the black smoke goes, I can't tell by your post whether it happens when you first start it, or after its running and you hit the gas.

Thanks for your Help Nightowl, We started it and then it stalled. Then we started it again and as soon as we turned the key it maintained its own idle, but It sounded like it was Loading up, so we stepped on the gas, Missed for a second, and then we saw the smoke and it cleared up. We took it around the block and ran fine. That was two days ago. We haven't tried it since. We will see today.... But we are really thinking it could be the IAC, someone said that you can clean them???????

Yes, they are cleanable, get some throttle body safe cleaner, and remove it. Spray it out and it should be good to go.
