Hi all. Just a couple of questions. First, this is the 4th Ford econoline I've owned, and in each of them I've experienced a most annoying clicking sound. It's a sound that seems to eminate(sp?) from the front right side of the van and is consistent with acceleration. It's hard to describe any further but it's been present in every one of my Ford E150s. What the heck is that noise?
Secondly, my previous 3 vans were wisper quiet when idling. If you parked and stood outside of them you'd barely hear them running. This one, however, seem quite loud. Any ideas why?
Does it have hubcaps or alloy wheels? The noise may be a cracked exhaust manifold, what does it sound like? The idler pulleys also go bad, and make noise.
Not sure about the wheels... I'll have to check. It's hard to describe just how this clicking sounds... almost like when you put a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle, only it has a more metalic sound to it.
Take the front wheel off, and while turning the rotor see if the backing plate is rubbing, they get bent in sometimes, or collect dirt, rocks, small animals, etc.
