Question bll 1988

I just recently purchase this broco ll, And it drove great for the first 2 weeks
but know after I start it up and drive for about 20-30min I start to smell fumes then it would just cut off, and after sitting for about 15min It would start up and run. while sitting I would try to start it and all light come on but no gas as I press down, the temp gage would creep up, but after the 15min the gage would barely move off the C. I changed the gas filter but this did not help.

can anyone help me?

A little tough to follow your description.
What kind of fumes do you smell? Exhaust fumes, gas fumes, sulfury "rotten egg" smell, ???
How much of your description involves the engine running and how much not starting?

A good first step in any diagnosis on these engines is to run the EEC-IV self-tests (aka "pull codes"). Ken00 has posted a page from his factory manual with procedure; only requires a jumper wire (paper clip) and a voltmeter/test light if your CEL is missing.

Exclamation bll 1988

I smell exhaust, while the engine is running.
I have changed out the fuel filter. I wonder If I may have to chang the tps. what could cause the engine to get gas then not?
I have a 5sp-xlt

Sulfury is usually an indicator of a dying catalytic converter. Cats rarely die, but are killed by some other fault (usually running rich).

I wouldn't worry about the TPS until you've at least pulled the codes.

Have you verified that the engine isn't getting gas with a fuel pressure gauge? That's the best way to diagnose fuel problems.

I agree with pulling the codes and testing the fuel pressure, you may also want to check for spark when it's a no-start.

The TFI ignition module sure sounds like your problem. When you buy a replacement, it should have instructions. It is easy, but you need a special tool to fit the recessed screws. The tool should be stores like Autozone or Pep Boys etc. I believe you remove the connector, then the 2 screws, then slide the module down to disengage the pins. The new module must have white thermal compound applied before installation. You then position it and slide it up to engage the pins, then install screws and connector.
