Testing Turbo?
95 F-250 4 WD. I bought the truck with 230K on it. I just replaced the injector O-Rings, Hydrolocked the motor, pulled the injectors back out and sucked out the oil in the cylinders with a small rubber tube. No fun but I sure learned a lot. Now I have a question, I was reading about guages and I came across a statement that if the eg temp is to high, it can cause the fins on the turbo to straighten out and you lose turbine efficiency. Since I don't know anything about the history of this truck the turbo may or may not be okay. Is there any test to see how well the turbo is running? thanks for all the great advice. A boost gauge would probably be a good start. It's not very likely on a stock truck - EGT's are more of an issue with chips and programmers. And for the fins to be flattened out on the turbo - there would also be some serious engine damage too. You watch EGT's to protect the motor (pistons) - not necessarily the turbo. If it were me, and the truck seems to be OK, I wouldn't worry too much about it!
