We were changing the glow plugs in my father in-laws truck this weekend and noticed a huge problem (I THINK). We were taking out the old autolight glow pluges and replacing them with motorcraft glowplus. Well when we got to the last one the bottom half of the glow plug was missing. Where did it go? The new one went in just fine and the truck started ok. So the question is where is the other half of the old one and what will happen?

I had the same thing happen whe I changed a glow plug on my '99 F-350, only it was a Beru plug. I didn't notice any problems before or since the plug change. I have my fingers crossed that the piece is not lurking somewhere ready to go through the turbo and damage it. I can't believe it is still on the top of the piston.

If I were you, I immediately stop that truck. Your chance of getting a very expensive repare bill is very high. While I was changing out all 8 of my, 2 broke and left in. Quad helped me getting them out from the injecter hole (a little bit bigger than the GP tip) with a telescoping magnet. I'm sleeping tight every night ever since! Shoot me a e-mail and I'll get you more detail. Erwin
My glow plug didn't break off during the replacement, the element was missing from it for quite some time, for years from the looks of the crud up inside the threaded part of the plug. I am pretty sure that there is no way any part of the element could still be in the cylinder. The element pieces probably made it out the exhaust.
