My 99 expy 4x4 5.4 86 k miles, lives with me at about 5K altitude. Here, I feed it a steady diet of 87 gas. I went down to sea level, and the sucker pings like a diesel. I put in super 91 and for the most part, the pinging went away. Shouldn't the knock sensor and the numerous computers in this beast stop that from happing? This happens every time I am at sea level, and it stops when i return to the moutains. I asked the dealer and they said it would take the computer a couple of weeks to "adjust to the pressure differation".
What do you guys think? has it happened to you? Dealer full of .....
Im right at sea level, always run 87 and it runs perfect. Last time i went to mountains was Mount Washington in NH, and I didnt notice any pinging, it ran fine on 87. i would think the computer should pick up large changes quicker than weeks.
