I admit, things are really basic just now, and it's cold in there to boot...
But once the weather warms a little more, the "shop" is going to be the center of my little world! When I think of all the months I worked outdoors, I don't regret a single dime of the rent increase. And I can hardly wait to get home for keeps.
There's no compressor yet, but check the cherry picker!
And I'm seriously considering another engine stand.
I'll be building a twelve foot long reinforced bench on the right hand side, and all of that yellow insulation is going to go up between the studs pretty soon.

one other thing, neatness, its awfully hard to work in a garage/shop thats cluttdered up. my garage is full of stuff, but my truck is to big to fit in it so i cant work on it in there anyway.
Them's the Chrome goodies I stashed in a leftover Edelbrock box!
It's pretty cluttered right now, but I plan on tunes (ZZ Top!), a tool-board for valve compressors and such, a fan for the summertime, a cooler, NASCAR posters, a space for my license plate collection, work lights, parts storage, and a gasket board so my spares don't get all bent up from laying around on a shelf.

Instead of a 12' work bench that just collects junk consider another roll cabinet and put a solid top on it. nice little work bench and you have to clean it off to start the next project, and it's portable too. I have an eight foot bench and never use more than about 2 feet of it, the rest always need cleaning.
Hey, I saw that little fury thing he was talking about, over by the wagon.
No ,that was a nice picture though!
Oh back to the ?
organization of everything !tools ,parts ,supplies
Tv,.radio, cd's, fridge, lots of lighting, nice smooth floor for the creeper, unless you have a lift. a/c for those real hot summer days.
Well thats all I can think of!
oh if, possible detacthed from main house for those late allnighters!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Feb-02 AT 08:42 PM (EST)]I think shelves and/or cabinets are essential to keeping clutter down. What I did in our garage for space is I built an attic. I got one of those retractable ladders and put it up and layed down 5/8 OSB on the trusses for the floor. It gave an unbeleivable amount of storage space up there. This is my shop until I get the pole barn finished.
How about a nice space heater? My boss' son has a barn convered to a shop with a nice heater system. You can be in there with a t-shirt and shorts in a snow storm and wouldn't even notice it.
Lots and Lots of Peg Board! I agree that a 12' workbench is too big. Steve built an 8' and we have 2 small roll arount carts. Also, looking at the space you have, when you do get a compressor, might want to check into a retractable hose reel to hang from the ceiling. Ours holds 100' of hose which reaches just about everywhere and is always out of the way yet easy to get to. I believe he has "His" shop just the way he wants it now that he got his parts washer.
neatness and organization is a key. im the most disorganized person you can meet. i spend more time looking for my tools and parts i took off my truck than anything else. oh and don't keep firewood in your garage. it's a huge pain, espceially when it starts to fall!
