Anyone know if the Throttle Body is a PIA to remove? I was thinking about taking it off and cleaning it up with some Gumont Throttle Body Cleaner.. Just wasnt sure what all was involved in removing it.. Also is there a gasket for the TB attaching to the Lower Intake that will have to be replaced when I take it off?
Piece of cake… Disconnect the TPS sensor wires, pop off the throttle cable, loosen the hose clamp that attaches the intake, and remove two mounting nuts. The gasket is reusable and stayed attached to the manifold on my 1998.
But if all you want to do is clean it, save yourself some time. Just remove the intake, hold the throttle open by hand and spray clean with a can of TB cleaner.
Yup, it's a cake walk. The only thing to be leary of is the TPS sensor. It's VERY delicate and if broken, will make your idle run a lot higher and other wierd crap...so just be careful with it.
I was weary about using TB cleaner with the intake on the block.. Dont think carbon and grime mixed with TB Cleaner would be good running through the block..
Well, I guess it's not like the grime will be running through your fuel injectors or anything. I think it'll pretty much get sucked into your cyclinders, burned, and expended through your exhaust valves. People have been using carb cleaner for decades without any side effects.
Otay.. Sounds good.. Looks like I'm off to Advance for some cleaner.. As for the TPS I can still take that off (carefully) and clean up the ports right? Without having to remove the entire TB..

Disconnect the battery first! I almost forgot to mention that! And yes, you can do that.
They do make a bigger throttle body for it, but you'll never get enough fuel to compensate for the increase in air flow. You'll have to replace your injectors and get a custom tuned Diablo chip for the computer. Your computer can only make small adjustments in air/fuel ratio changes. But not enough to compensate for a bigger throttle body.
The stock injectors are 19# and should be adequate up to 240HP at the rear wheels or about 300HP at the crank. Installing a larger TB really does nothing without supporting mods (intake manifold, larger valves, bigger cam, headers, etc) that require the additional airflow. A stock lightning only sees +5HP from a larger aftermarket TB. You would probably never notice a 5HP change and at $100 per HP it’s not worth it. Oh, just for reference I think turning your AC off frees up somewhere about 15HP so the TB would do about 1/3 of that.
wow, 15HP for turning off my a/c. I need to remember the next time I go to race someone to turn my a/c off 10 times before the race. That will give me 150 extra horsepower, and make me look like I have excessive compulsive disorder
between turning the a/c on and off ten time while pushing the O/D on and off 3 times, people will think i'm having an eptileptic seizure and call an ambulance.
