On the 87-96 F forum I had asked about some general maintenance advice. One of the comments included the following: "The tranny has a drop the pan and make a mess style, but even so it's well worth doing. Also while you're in there, since you'll be plowing, I highly recomend a shift improver kit from any reputable manufacturer. THEY REALLY do help, and keep the fluid temp down especially going from drive to reverse,& drive to reverse... while plowing. They are quite easy to install and there's no better time to do it than at filter/fluid change."
I have a `93 F-250 4X4 with the 5.8L engine and E4od trans. I'm not familiar with this type of product/device. Is this the truck equivilent of the performance car trick shift kits?
What does the shift improver kit do to/for the trans?
Do you agree it is a worthwhile modification?
Who makes a quality kit? (I.E. is a "reputable manufacturer")
Are there different types, and if so, what type do I need? (The only similar type of device I am familiar with was oriented towards drag racing.)
I installed the trans-go shift kit in the exact same setup it dropped the trans. temps 30 degrees will towing. Only draw back is the harsh shifts while not towing. I would also have to agree that once you have the pan off its half the battle.
Thanks for the reply on these items. I have heard of B&M for drag racing and street performance but never would have thought of them for truck operations but it makes sense. I never heard of Trans-Go, but I will check them both out. From other things I have read I think I will be installing a trans temp gauge.
